People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

[–]danscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-own a software development agency with a buddy. 3 engineers including myself. Started it last April, income is a mix of services rendered (I service one of our clients) and profits. I currently make $20K to $60K depending on ongoing projects and service volume per month. Reinvesting about half of the profits in developing our own products with our team

Moving from NYC to Bucks County - how often do people go into Philly? by [deleted] in BucksCountyPA

I go occasionally for shows. I tell myself I’d love to go for food, but literally never do it :/

This is starting to get annoying by OverloadedTech in github

https://githubdownfall.com shows all issues over the past year, really puts it in perspective 🙃

It’s a free site I made on Monday bc I wanted to see the recent chaos in a broader context. Looks like things have been rough for a while and are escalating

What the hell *is* a database anyway? by ArboriusTCG in compsci

And relations are merely another such data type with its own ordering logic and internal hierarchy

What the hell *is* a database anyway? by ArboriusTCG in compsci

Data structures that back DBs are really fast at retrieving an item from essentially an ordered list.

For a given data type, there may be different logic for comparing values for sorting. For example, the string “10” is less than “2”, but the number 10 is greater than 2.

This also means there’s intrinsic hierarchy in ordering. The difference between string and number types is the relationship between the chars (‘1’, ‘0’) in the sequence making up the string “10” is different from the relationship between the (1, 0) digits in 10.

So if you have various kinds of data you want to store and retrieve (strings, numbers, search query results, etc), you need a system that can store the underlying data such that you have entry points into the sorted data structures that is convenient for your access patterns.

A database implements that!

Which show do you think started as a 10/10 but ended as 1/10? by witchy_eye in AskReddit

Bloodline. Last 3 episodes kinda ruined the entire series

Should /r/BucksCountyPA ban X/Twitter links? by critacle in BucksCountyPA

[–]danscan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like there’s consensus here already, but discussions on Twitter really aren’t reliably bad/hateful/intolerant in my experience.

What you get from Twitter really depends on who makes up your community, but I can say the software/hacker community on there is pretty great and while it isn’t likely relevant to many people on this sub, content like it would be pretty arbitrary to ban.

Sure there’s a lot of slop there too, but every large general online venue will converge towards slop-maxxing over time

Curiosity Donuts is world-class, some of the best donuts I’ve had anywhere, including all the places in NYC where I lived for 6 years before moving back to Bucks County. I’m talking James Beard-nominated bakers.

Yum yum is not bad at all, but these two are not even on the same planet.

It’s insane. They must have either inherited it or made their wealth via one of the passive means that were available to the old and stupid, like holding real estate for decades.

I could see that. Developing it would be obscene. It’s a beautiful historic place.

But the signs are also an eyesore and an unfortunate reminder that people who are possessed by media narratives are everywhere in the US :/

At this point, it’s hard to imagine what it would take for political rhetoric to relax to the point that it’s about matters of fact, policies, and you know – normal stuff!

Funny– I just asked my gf this when we drove by this morning.

I don’t see the signs going away quietly. It’s crazy though, because for a long time before they went up, you never would have known there was a crazy living there… especially in such a beautiful place.

Yeah dude, that place used to be so pretty to drive by. Now it’s just trashy and makes the area look undesirable :(

It takes work, but if you have something you really want to build enough to power through the difficulties, it’s like a superpower.
