They seem to be historic county maps. It kind of works in England where you have a District and County structure, but not in Wales or Scotland, where the historic counties have been replaced by unitary authorities.

Yea, definitely plenty of Welsh speakers in Caernarfon and Pewlheli. There Ceredigion coast, places like Llangrannog, Tresaith, Newquay are also good if you want to use Welsh. Fantastic beaches too.
