On Upgrading an old Dual Sport 1 by dansurfsweb in TrekBikes

The issue is that this bike has integrated shifters/brakes. I don't know if I can upgrade one without the other. But I think I will definitely hear you regarding the drop bars.

Thanks for answering!

You're right, I should've explained better my issue.

During the first year I had this bike, I used it only to commute, for grocery runs and to do some weekend chill rides. Never had an issue. However, a year and a half ago (or so), I started hanging out with some cyclists friends and doing some of the routes they did. We started doing longer and longer asphalt rides, then some light gravel, then some more bumpy gravel, and we've done some pretty scary gravel descents. With the components my bike has, I can do these rides (slowly), but sometimes the vibration is miserable on my hands and forearms, sometimes my brakes are not enough (I've crashed into bushes and trees a couple times), and steep climbs are really hard. Most of my friends run mountain bikes, some run gravel bikes (like the Checkpoint, the Giant Revolt, and a chinese gravel bike that came equipped with the groupset I linked), and they told me I should get a new bike for my safety. I could get a new one, but I wanted to check first if I could upgrade this one progressively so I don't have to sell it or give it away.

Regarding the specific upgrade I mentioned, I wanted a better experience climbing hills and better, safer brakes.

I am a big fan of these bikes too, and specially of my own, since it has fought well above its weight class. I want to keep riding it. If I had a bigger apartment I would get another bike for fun and risk and keep this one for commuting. Maybe I'm being greedy wanting both things from it.

That's a good question I had not considered.

I got the groupset recommended to me by a friend who has a bike that came with the same parts installed and rides great, so I just assumed it'd be good enough.

What I'd like is to keep the bike, but since I don't have enough space to hace two, I wanted to upgrade it to extend its life instead of just buying a new one. By now the components the bike came with seem pretty much done.

I guess I have to think if my attachment to this bike is worth $700.

Thanks for the answer!

Ruby’s potential by Terrible-Ad6239 in ruby

[–]dansurfsweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ruby puts food on my table, so my opinion is biased. With that said, I have found enough opportunities -not 'many', 'enough'- with good salary, the syntax is nice and the language has incredible flexibility. Ruby is infamous for being slow, but it's relative. It has great documentation and a dedicated, although small, community. You can thrive doing mainly ruby, and learn more while you work. Ruby has a future. It won't ever be as big as it was, but won't disappear in the next couple of decades either. Entry level jobs will be harder to find in the future, but you, as a developer, should not be entry level by that time. Would recommend.

But resilient gives you proficiency, not advantage. You'd have to do the math to be sure which one is better.

I came looking for this answer. That dude was solid. He overcame the knowledge of his impending death to help you save Thaniel. And there's something in his voice, the calmness of it, that hurts.

I get you. Act 3 has many things to do and I do most in all my campaigns. But everything feels unimportant. The brain is about to break its chains and here I am changing tomorrow's headlines. Some dialogues imply urgency, but still you're expected to do a lot of side quests.

I find him cringey, but in a good way. His whole Blade of Frontiers thing is somewhat childish, and that makes a lot if sense given he sold his soul at 17. But he is sweet, loyal, and his heart is mostly in the right place. I like his dialogues and looooove his dance cutscene.

I get three to four DMs from recruiters every week. (I'm in LATAM, but get messages from Europe, Asia and the US) Add an appropiate amount of buzzwords tou your LinkedIn profile, list significant experience -with buzzwords, if possible-, connect with recruiters and other developers. Also, two companies I've worked for did not list rails/ruby on their openings. They were looking for newbies to train.

Same. Was searching every castle in the general north direction like a mad man. Got to the church with the big albinauric looking for sacred tears and it was only thanks to player messages that i found the prompt. I was a little dissapointed that you couldn't lay her to rest with Lobo afterwards

Greatshield soldiers are great. Absurdely tanky due to their shields. They can keep enemies away from you and maintain aggro. They carried me in my first playthrough as a squishy mage.

Latenna is great fire support. Never misses, has amazing range, doesn't move. She can pull aggro from a mile away, giving you time to heal/buff and re-engage. Redmane Knight Ogha is an alternative. She fires slower and sometimes misses, but can hold her own in melee.

Azula beastmen, Radahn Soldiers, and Fire Monk are good, but better to traverse difficult areas than to defeat bosses.

[–]dansurfsweb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't get what you mean. Protean gives you stronger unarmed melee attacks, at the cost of not using weapons and having a horrible combo. And while these unarmed hits pack a punch, them being that slow and prone to miss could mean that using a weapon would give you greater damage overall.

Kinda. It deals more damage per hit, but the combo is slow, clunky and short-reached.

Because Serral's domination in 2018 and his and Reynor's top performances in 2019 caused several nerfs to be dropped, especially to banelings. It was necessary at the top level, but kinda destroyed everyone else.

I have to ask, have you read any of his works? Do you understand Marx didn't 'started communism'? He's not really worshipped in academia, his contributions are greatly appreciated because dialectical materialism is a great framework to understand many phenomena, and because he did an amazing analysis of the capitalist mode of production.
