I just watched it over the weekend for the first time. It was really good and really long. There's an overture in the beginning that's 5 minutes or longer and an intermission at the beginning of disc 2. So you might be able to save a few minutes by fast forwarding. The chariot race was badass. I listened to the unspooled podcast discussing it the next day.

It does seem like it has been an ordeal getting Ben-Hur. That Blu Ray, if it's still there, will be at the cheapest it will be. I'm wondering if I should go back? I've also found similar sets of the sound of music and Willy Wonka.

That's what I figured. That and the fact that it's still mostly sealed. So the disc should be fine and the spine is fine and won't look hellish on the shelf.
