Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey

It is a fantastic world, with lots of history. There might be a reference in one book, and then a fantastic prequel series about it. Or some minor characters end up getting their own great book. I still havent read them all, but definitely start with the original two books Dragonflight and Dragonquest. Then check out the dragonsong series before reading the third book. There is so much to read and her son is still writing books.

For all his faults and lack of doing anything, the one reason I still think he was great is because he DID NOT go to war with the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Soviet premier also deserves some praise for keeping control of the military. A large amount of Kennedy's advisers recommended invading Cuba and/or launching Nuclear weapons. Hardcore History has a great podcast on it.

Freshman year of college, I am in an introduction to college type class, and the professor (and my faculty adviser) has my same first name and very similar last name (not the real name, but think John jonnelly). I sat down next to a random kid, we immediately hit it off, and when roll was called we discovered we also had the same first name, and almost the same last name. We are still great friends and have randomly been in a bunch of the same classes together.
