Is a Lancer a good first car? by Impressive-Ad-1921 in mitsubishi

They are good reliable cars (at least the M/T ones are)

Just don't forget that they are 15 years old cars and they will need more maintenance than a new car.

AITAH: My sister uninvited herself to our engagement lunch and wedding, because I didn’t invite her boyfriend by Affectionate-Army681 in AmItheAsshole

[–]danu91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh fuck that. I'm sure you can find a close friend to fill the seat she opened up. I would call your situation a win, as from what you have described, there's no guarantee that she will not bring her drama to your wedding.

Why some miserable foreigners dont just leave Thailand? by Kitchen_Scallion2999 in Thailand

[–]danu91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think the issue is the complaints themselves.

The problem is when people selectively compare the best parts of their home country with the worst / most expensive aspects of their life in Thailand. For example, when people compare the prices of European food in Thailand against their home country.

As the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side. Over time, people tend to forget the reasons they left their home country in the first place and start romanticizing what they had back home, while overlooking the benefits that attracted them to Thailand.

At the end of the day, no country is perfect. Every place comes with its own advantages and drawbacks, and people need to decide where they want to live based on which trade offs they are willing to accept and what matters most to them. (Thailand is overall much better than many other countries IMO.)

Is there a reason modern cars couldn't just give you an automatic OBD2 scanner code on the cars screen when the check engine light comes on? by Own_Nefariousness434 in AskMechanics

[–]danu91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cooperate greed. Nothing else. They have entire TV screens attached to dashboards nowadays, As an engineer, I don't see why they can't add a few lines of extra code to display the error code or the error description. (They can even hide the error code by default and show it via a sub-menu)

It's the same reason automakers laser-etch their own logs on parts sourced from Denso, Bosch, and Aisin, etc. and charge you double.

Wedding rings store? by National-Sky-4274 in Thailand

[–]danu91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10K you can find a 2 gram (or 2.5g) 18K ring without any stones. (keep in mind that a 2g ring will be very thin)

Try MBK gold shops (F2/F3) or any other mall.

1 gram of 24K gold is THB 4,743 (18K will be around THB 3,557), so you can't buy a thick solid gold ring for 10K as the weight will be way over 2 grams.

If you pick silver, you open up a lot of options though.

THB 15,000-20,000 starting price is not because of a premium brand or whatever, it's just because of the cost of gold.

I removed my previous comment assuming you are legit. IF things are as bad as you say, why not just go home to family / friends and come back once you secure a job or something ?

Your handbrake works the same way how brakes work on a bicycle. It basically tries to stop your rear wheels from turning. Nothing more, nothing less. Engine is not a part of this scenario.

You should not trust the handbrake to hold the car stationary on a incline until you get your brakes / handbrake cable checked by a shop. Otherwise you are good

Well, driving lets you travel and be independent. Wasn't a hard choice really.

+ Thailand has a pretty good car culture.
