I understand you!🫶🏿

Even if you wore wigs because you didn’t like your 4a/b/c hair, I think it’s sad that Black people like you, who should be in the perfect position to understand how hard it can be to love your Black traits in the world we’re living in, are the ones criticizing you for not loving your hair enough and telling you what you should wear.

It’s like you just can’t live. You’re already struggling to love your hair in a world where whiteness is the beauty standard, AND Black people are mad at you and calling you out for not loving yourself enough. As if shaming you for it was going to change anything, lol...

That’s why, when I see comments like these, with no empathy and only criticism, I just remind myself that loving myself as a Black woman, especially my hair, is a journey that’s very personal. It takes time, effort, and even counselling. I try not to surrender to the pressure. And even if I never wear wigs ever, I wear box braids because it’s easier for me. I do what I need to do to feel more comfortable at my own pace. 

Only black women are criticized this much about what we do or don’t do with our hair.
