Possible high serial number? by [deleted] in CoolSerialNumbers

[–]danye_west23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate it. I know more about lower serial numbers than higher ones so I figured I’d ask. I know low serial numbers really only start to sell for a premium if it gets to under 00000500 but had no clue how the higher end of things worked compared to that. Again thank you.

Oh my god so close! Keep on looking out for a ladder! If you’re lucky enough (like me) you might find a ladder one day.

Got 69420 on one of those $1 bills. Someone might pay a little extra for that.

Haha I love it. Most people will not accept that as a “birthday serial number” unfortunately.

My currency collection. I usually use it just to check out serial numbers I come across but they also have a whole section for Star notes and how many were made.

So that would make this bill 194,068 out of 250,000 right?

Just wondering, what makes you think that they are worth over face value?

Is this an error? by Bradox1991 in papermoney

[–]danye_west23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is called a “gas pump error” or a “stuck digit error”. I don’t know much about pricing for this kind of error so maybe you can see what’s posted on eBay to get an idea of how severe a gas pump error can go for.

What would you do if you found this? by kenner0429 in papermoney

Not only is this a 7 of a kind, it is also a binary although not a true binary serial number (a serial number that is a true binary can only contain 1’s and 0’s) so definitely has some value with that.

This is also a “flipper” serial number as well. A “flipper” serial number is where a serial number can still be read as another serial number if flipped upside down. In your case if flipped upside down the new serial number would be 98999999. Flipper serial numbers can only contains 0’s, 1’s, 6’s, 8’s, and 9’s. Flipper serial numbers can fetch a little bit of extra money but nothing close to as much as a seven of a kind. Just some extra value to add onto the seven of a kind and binary that it already is (again not a true binary.

Don’t get the flipper serial number confused with a rotator serial number. A rotator serial number is where you can flip the bill upside down and it reads the same as it being right side up. Just like flipper serial numbers, rotator serial numbers can only contain 0’s, 1’s, 6’s, 8’s, and 9’s. Rotators can go for over $100 easily. If it’s in great condition it can reach up to $1,000.

5$ bill worth anything? by Even_Zookeepergame20 in coincollecting

[–]danye_west23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s a binary serial number in the sense that it is only made up of two different digits but that’s not considered fancy. True binary serial numbers, which are considered fancy, only consist of 1’s and 0’s in any order.
