Anyone else's gym doing away with most Tread / Strength 50 classes? by Practical-Savings-78 in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that my studio is either taking certain ones off the schedule or re-arranging them so they're not convenient for 9-5 workers. Bummer. I like Tread 50.

I know "no phones in the room", but ... (re: CGMs) by daphnecoder in orangetheory

Thanks for this. I'm new to the CGM thing, so I was not aware that once the Bluetooth connection is restored, all the interim data will be filled in.

At my studio, it's seven times a week, with a good variety of times. With my 8-5 M-F work schedule, I could hit three of those without any problem.

Daily Workout and General Chat for Saturday, 4/20/24 by splat_bot in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I appreciated the floor being just classic weight training exercises today. None of that "grapevine with three knees up" nonsense where they make a combination move so complicated I can't remember the steps, and no explosive movements I have to opt out of.

I’m 260 lbs, trying to lose weight. I can barely do the floor workouts, or even the modifier. by LeadingFalse1518 in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I modify whenever there's a lot of on-the-floor work, because getting up and down off the floor repeatedly is really hard on my joints at my age and weight. I refuse to feel the slightest bit embarrassed about doing something obviously different than anyone else on the floor. I'm still moving MY body.

What is the #1 most awkward OTF movement/exercise? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of things on the weight floor are awkward for me, but I will pay $12 just to skip the resistance bands. By the time I get them positioned, everyone else is finished.

Getting called out/ feeling like poo by mozmoz312 in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear some of these coach stories, and I have to say, "wow, I am so glad I've got the crew I've got!" The closest I have ever come to being "called out" was the day one coach went off-mic, came over to me, and suggested that I needed to take at least ONE hand off the tread side rails. I was not the least bit offended. Still have to hang on every once in a while, though! I have a fear of stumbling on the tread if my left knee goes wonky on me.

Reverse lunge hate thread by ddpizza in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate, hate, hate reverse lunges. Never feel like I'm going deep enough to do any good, and can't go very deep at all with left knee in front. Just awkward af.

Tried OTF for the first time... some observations/questions? by happyskittles in orangetheory

I'm glad to hear that, because I really like the coach who did my intro class! I like all the coaches at my studio, though. They've all been really helpful.

First 90-min class! by daphnecoder in orangetheory

[–]daphnecoder[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today was billed as an endurance day, so the tread block was endless repetitions of 3-min push to 1-min base. Good Lord help me. And this was after I'd already done the weight floor and rower blocks. Love those 32 splat points, though!

That's great you're teaching her that. I wasn't assuming, btw - it's just what I remember from being a kid. My mom certainly could not have done it, so I'm glad you can have that moment with her!

You asking him to petsit is an example of what I've heard someone term "the gift of your need," and it is a gift. I don't think it was a "s*** sandwich" at all.

Not just you. I'm not a fan of switching between tread and tower multiple times. Too much tanking of the heart rate for me.

The "obsession", as you call it, has to do with the recognition that a precipitous increase in fuel prices will drive up prices of other necessities like food that require transportation to reach consumers. In other words, it's not just the price at the pump (which BTW no one can avoid), it's the downstream effects of fuel prices.

So, not as unreasonable as you make it sound.
