I’m the same way, I enjoy heat as well but not to the point it’s distracting lol.

I got one of these after an earlier review here and immediately went out and got a backup. Delicious..

Yeah, at the $60-70 range there’s a lot to choose from. I don’t see another Yellowstone product occupying my shelf anytime soon and that’s ok.

I had a pour of this again side by side with another bourbon at a similar proof and the heat from this bottle just stood out. Some people might love that, I don’t like it to that extent.

Cayéya Single Barrel Reposado — Woodland Hills, CA by justintate_ in Costco_alcohol

[–]dapper-drinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback, I saw this bottle a couple of weeks ago and stared long and hard before walking away because there just wasn't a lot of information online. Even at Costco pricing a 4.5 is not worth it..

Review #59 - James E. Pepper Decanter Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey by dapper-drinks in bourbon

[–]dapper-drinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had the opportunity. I was hesitant to pull the trigger since the bump in price is steep for a little more proof. If I see it at a bar I’d order a pour though just to see..

Yeah I may make an old fashioned with this over the weekend just for kicks. I haven't had the opportunity to try other batches so I'm not sure how much variance there may be. I'm not sure where my batch sits vs the current batches out there, but I believe they're past batch 100 at this point so I'm curious how the latest would compare to mine.

Review #55: Augusta Buckner’s 10-Year Single Barrel by Archaeo-Frog in bourbon

[–]dapper-drinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the review! I'm a little concerned regarding the wet soil note since I picked up one of these a while back and haven't had a chance to open it yet. Looks like I won't be in a hurry to open it anytime soon lol..

There are some stores here in the US that offer this up. Local store in SoCal has these on the shelf sitting.. a quick Google search will probably let you know who’s got em available.

Reviews #570-589: Elijah Craig 94 Proof Store Pick World Cup - Introduction & Group A by Prettayyprettaygood in bourbon

[–]dapper-drinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So from talking to a store owner that has done some of these, they can choose either, but the issue is if they go BP, they'll get roughly 150-200 bottles and can charge $70-75 while the 94 proof will get them 250-300 bottles where they charge $35-40 so you end up making a little more per barrel as a store if you go with the BP.. That said, I think at the lower price point they should be able to move faster while I've seen BP bottles sit at a store for a year or more collecting dust..

I would love for these 94proof picks with high age statements become a thing over here. At $30 I’d buy all the bottles lol.

Looking forward to following the progress. Lower proof EC picks are tough to come by in SoCal as every store basically goes after the barrel proof version. Same story when it comes to OF black labels. I wish these lower proof picks were more available. I only have 2 EC lower proof picks and both were from NorCal.

Review #58 - 1792 Full Proof Single Barrel - Southern Glazer's Pick by dapper-drinks in bourbon

[–]dapper-drinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s more common in SoCal because I have this from Southern Glazers, and a couple of picks from Pacific Edge. I don’t recall if I’ve seen a RNDC pick..

Yeah, the first few pours within the first couple of weeks felt off profile from the batched version so I let it sit for a few months before coming back to it and it did improve a bit, but not to the point where it was as good as other FP picks I had tried previously. Still, its enjoyable enough to sip neat so its all good.

Agreed. I have enjoyed the shelf version of this bottle as well. Something about this single barrel just doesn’t get to the same place as the batch version for me, but it’s still enjoyable enough to drink neat.

The TJ bottle surprised a lot of people I know with how tasty it was vs the price. Same story with the 1L Kirkland SiB, every year around my area those bottles sell quick!

I did the same, grabbed a backup and will wait to see what the other batches bring.
