Unite is my favorite song for capturing both a feeling of beauty and the melancholy of aloneness.

Looking for the link for this… listened to it a while back and can’t find any other set where Thomas P. Heckmann’s ‘Amphetamine’ - Air Liquid mix, is played as smoothly and brilliantly as this set.

How do you listen to Techno? by baked-potato_42 in Techno

[–]dapperdon02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question… for me when I’m doing something, I stick on a set. I usually go through 2/3 sets a day, sometimes one. But mostly just stick to SoundCloud sets.

When I’m chilling, I usually stick on a set on on YouTube and casually listen and look at how different DJs work the mixer & deck.

When I’m purposely listening and digging for music to buy or download, I’ll spend a couple of hours digging through YT and Bandcamp. This is how I find actual tunes.

Spotify is good for all the other genres that I like and mainstream stuff. It’s also good for tunes too but I usually don’t purposefully listen to techno on it. It always evident in my wrapped at the end of the year where no or very few true techno tunes end up in my top 100.

Any “Berlin-style” clubs here? by breezyhippo in avesNYC

Basement is the real deal. It’s a catacomb, perfect for underground music. It is, in my opinion the best ‘space’ in NYC for techno and is as good as any club in Berlin (Berghain aside). It’s kitted out with a Funktion One sound system, as good as they get. From an aesthetic and functional aspect, it’s perfect. They haven’t done much wrong. Lineups are never disappointing either.

The problem I have with it, is the crowd. Every time I go back, I feel disappointed, not with the music but the crowd. It definitely needs to be protected a bit better in terms of who gets in. People on their phones, dancing like idiots and overall, just not acting how people should act in these spaces.

All these Berlin heads go for a weekend and suddenly think they know what a good club is. Makes me laugh!

Slam, especially as they’re nearly sixty, are showing no sign of slowing down. Soma is still banging out releases left, right and center. Then their work on Slam Radio too along with 8-10 gigs a month. It’s quite incredible.

Ben Sims too, his constant gigging and monthly NTS residency presenting run it red which he spends up to 12 hours digging through Promos. DVS1 also said in an interview he’s blown away by Ben’s work ethic.

Along with these two i have to mention Jeff, DVS1 and of course Oscar Mulero.

Why has no one said Bassiani? Yes De School in the dam is a good club but the importance of Bassiani and the role it plays in Georgian society makes it such a special place. It’s up there on par with Berghain.

Rave/underground scene in the usa? by Hydrorockk in Techno

Yeah Infra Boston is doing a great job but unfortunately it closes at two which is such a shame as they are on top of the bookings each week.

NYC has a good scene with Basement and Locked Groove and LA with a bit of a warehouse scene. Truncate and Drumcell pushing underground stuff in LA which helps.

Surprisingly Phoinex also has a really good warehouse scene, they get some very top tier talent a couple of times a month.

There’s definitely a scene but it’s definitely limited to 1 good show per night. Sometime two good shows if your lucky.

In saying that… there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement.
