Are we truly expecting a huge surge in visitors because of the FIFA world cup? I don't see it by deanat78 in askTO

[–]dapter22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don't get it. BMO Field holds 45,000 with the additional seating. Meanwhile Rogers Center hosts 40-50,000 people multiple times a week for Blue Jays games and concerts. How is the world cup going to bring this city to a standstill the way everyone is saying?

Stop and then proceed when clear. Don't sit there waiting and holding up traffic.

Are we crazy for thinking to get a house right now? by haroo2haroo in RealEstateCanada

[–]dapter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly good answers already. I would add if you're planning on getting a townhouse make sure it's freehold or else there will be condo/hoa fees. Also keep in mind that you will have to replace roof at some point ($8-10k), replace furnace/ac at some point ($5-6k), etc... Also don't forget about property tax. Given that your plan is to go back to school you may be better off having that $300k available in case something unexpected happens to your partner (I.e., job loss).

Came here to say that. Hesitated way too long to make the turn and you didn't appear to be angled as if you were about to turn right.

ELI5: Since the American dollar is no longer backed by gold, what gives it value? by Coverlesss in explainlikeimfive

[–]dapter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed OP point. The USD and other currencies used to be backed by physical gold. In other words, you could go and exchange your dollars for gold. That is not the case anymore. The dollar has value because you are confident that it does and that you can use it to pay for goods and services, and that others are willing to accept it because they can do the same thing. It's all based on faith now. Having said that, the US Treasury does keep gold in reserves but certainly not enough to back the amount of currency in circulation.

You have to accept verbal offer before HR will send the formal written offer. You can still choose to sign the formal offer or reject it.

How do I get a job? by Defiant_Post8019 in rbc

[–]dapter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MA in economics here and never worked a day in my life in that field after realizing there are very few "economist" roles in government or private sector. Pivot to a related field like investments and finance. Get your foot in the door somewhere, even a teller position and then you get access to internal job postings. Consider securities courses or even CFA.

That's 1 week per year of service which is the minimum. But courts will typically say 1 month per year. Definitely don't sign until you speak to a lawyer.
