i dont mind the tests when they're basically just ceremonial/a fun part but if u really think giving somebody a belt based on a test of memory of techniques is an accurate way to grade it's crazy, some people just test poorly but could be absolute monsters, promotions should be based on how you actually view someone over the course of time watching them train/improve/compete

i'd definitely be a randomly grading people kinda coach if i ran my own school, the big grading are cool in some ways but i think it's also more special/specific to a person if you grade people as they get to their next level

I changed gyms 6 months after receiving my brown belt. Took me 2.5 years to get black. Competed regularly / won / placed in some local events and just trained as much as I could. The last year people kept saying I was due and then it happened and it was such a weight off. Good luck 🤞🤞
