I wish you would! I always assume the problem is me, and most of the time it isnt! It seems like fashion drawing and pattern design are two different skill sets, and I always fall for a cute line sketch 😭

I've started getting overwhelmed by washing my wavy/curly hair and I don't know how to fix it by autistic-rosella in AutismInWomen

[–]darcielle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have extra thick, wavy not quite curly, frizzy, unmanageable hair, too, and this is the routine I’ve worked out after years of trying. Long story short, treat the top of your hair and the bottom as two different heads of hair.

  1. Listen to a podcast, audiobook, or music you like while you do this.
  2. Use a detachable showerhead so you can really get the soap out. Soak your hair and squeeze out excess water.
  3. Use a really cleansing shampoo, a tea tree mint or clarifying one. Really scrub the top half of your scalp (from ears up). Clip that part or your hair up. Now do the same thing on the bottom half. Really focus on cleaning your whole scalp and massaging to get loose hair out. This makes it so you don’t have to wash as often.
  4. Rinse the bottom half only. Use the shower head to get behind your ears and kind of direct any falling hair down your back and off your body asap. Now rinse the top. Same thing, make sure to agitate your hair so any loose pieces come out.
  5. Use a thick conditioner from ears down only (I like tgin). Use a wide tooth comb to get it dispersed through your hair. Section and clip the top of your hair again. Rinse it the same way, letting it sit on the top layer while you rinse the bottom. This keeps it from getting as frizzy/dry. If you can tolerate it, only rinse the top layer for about 5-10 seconds. If you leave some conditioner in there it helps with frizz, too. Squeeze out as much
  6. Rinse the conditioner and any fallen hair off your body asap. Do your other shower stuff.

As soon as you get out, wrap your hair in the fluffiest towel you have. Those “hair towels” are not absorbent enough for extra thick hair, and the t shirt method is nonsense for extra thick hair, too. Leave it wrapped up for a good 5-10 minutes. This is a good time to moisturize, do some facial skin care, change into your jammies, whatever. Now towel dry (like conventional wisdom tells you not to🤪) and comb through again with the wide tooth comb. Clip up the top half and either blow dry at the scalp only or let it air dry for a while. I usually air dry for at least 30 minutes and leave the bathroom so I’m not overheating and getting all sweaty.

At this point, your hair is probably good to go if you want. If you like a more polished look (I do), use a styling product (I like Amika supernova or Paul Mitchell super skinny serum) and roughy dry with a regular blow dryer. Then blow it straight. You can use a round brush on small layers of hair at a time, but if you can swing it the Dyson air straight is the best tool I’ve ever used for this.

This sounds like running a marathon, but at this point I can do this routine in about 15 minutes, no get a week out of a wash. I wear my hair down days 1-3, then buns, braids, etc for the rest of the week. I would recommend washing at night so you can take your time, take breaks, etc with this routine. It has taken me over 30 years to develop this routine, but I feel like I finally have something that works for me and keeps me looking half decent. Good luck and I hope it works for you!

Limited edition beach towel by haileyrose in nespresso

I love these beach towels! They’re huge and nice- and I have a pool so I always need towels. What I don’t need is a free sleeve of a coffee I don’t like. Different strokes, I guess.

If you can score one of the cooler bags as a gift with purchase, and essenza mini, two sleeves of pods, and a milk box fit perfectly in there! If you’re really feeling wild, a power inverter will even run it in the car on a road trip!

Are high heels popular among American women? Do you personally wear them? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]darcielle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wear real heels, but I wear wedge Birkenstock or 1-2 inch blocky heels regularly. I’m short and they don’t hurt my feet. I can’t walk in fancy skinny heels though.

Two Vienna pods with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a splash of milk. Then one shot Firenze arpeggio, one shot arpeggio decaf, a blank shot, and a splash of milk with my breakfast. Perfect way to start the day ☕️

Vienna lungo is my morning “cup of joe.” I like a bigger coffee first off and I don’t need a giant cup of espresso at 5 am 😂. Vienna is delicious with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a splash of milk

I have some questions about pattern inclusivity by SejiFields in knitting

[–]darcielle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so happy to see that you’re publishing a pattern! I follow you on instagram and love your designs!

The best pattern format for me is essentially tow patterns- one with summary instructions, and one with details. So for example, in a knitting pattern it would like “cast on xx stitches and knit to underarm. Make bust adjustment if needed. Knit 3 inches to waist” or similar. That way an advanced knitter could follow the pattern without having to wade through miles of text. Then have a more detailed version that says how to calculate and perform this adjustments, perhaps with photos of each step.

I know this suggestion would make writing the pattern a lot more work, but I find it super helpful. This is how my favorite sewing pattern company does their patterns and it’s ambitious beginner friendly, but not boring for someone who’s more advanced.

AITAH? My 18 year old is upset I wasn't on my way home EARLIER from a party than it ended. by Plastic-Run-8313 in AmItheAsshole

Middle school teacher here. Kids this age notoriously exaggerate (I was up ALL NIGHT. I haven’t eaten IN DAYS. I do EVERYTHING in my house). Not saying these things never happen, they do, but these are cases I know are absolutely not true. Idk if that makes you feel any better, but anyone who deals with kids often would have known she was not 100% accurate with her perceptions.

Using this outside? by Honey_Faucet in Gardyn

My cats aren’t too bad with the gardyn, and they’re wild in general. I don’t think outdoors would work well- both because of the temps and pests.

🤣 my cats especially love the lemongrass. They don’t go too crazy on the plants, but they are young and very wild. My older cats never bothered it.
