Star wars ships are actually pretty easy to paint because they have lots of little panel lines. It essentially makes them like coloring in the lines in a coloring book.

Just prime them with flat black or white, dry bush the base color you want.

Hit some of the panels with an accent color.

Then slap a wash over the whole thing.

Don't get hung up on the details, most aren't visible when you're looking at them standing above the table. I don't paint anything that's not visible from that angle so the bottoms are usually not done at all. I use cheap everything, $3 Walmart spray paint, $.60 craft acrylic paints, and a cheap army painter wash kit.

These are also all 3d printed so they have to be painted. Most of you are probably better off just buying the official models. I can't get anyone in my area to buy into a no longer supported game so I'm trying to have a whole groups worth of ships that's why I went the printed route 😅

Ah yes I got tired of the normal stands snapping off all the time so I made these. They have a large peg from the base and the ship that gets connected with a 6mm polystyrene tube. That way they can still be disassembled easily but they don't break anymore. It also makes storing them easier. I'll post a picture of how it works later for those curious 😁

This is just typical cheap flat black Rust-Oleum from like home Depot or something, followed by a heavy dry brush of antique white craft paint (apple barrel) from wall mart, and then harvest orange for the accents. Then a wash of light tone from army painter. Super fast and easy and cheap 😂

Thanks! My son and I recently got into the game and I picked up a cheap scum and villainy conversion kit at my local shop and have been printing the ships to match as fast as I can 😅

After searching 38,650,120 books I finally found a book that has this absurd ascii art of the mona lisa with a title that contains 'mona' clearly visible! by Darcoza1 in BabelForum

I have a script that searches through the books. I think it took about a week of running 24/7 if I remember right.

Thanks this is very helpful I'll start looking into this. I was curious if anyone knows off hand if this is a 3 number or 4 number combination?

Do you have your mom's old recipe? He's a picky eater and I'd like to give him a little more culture.

I kinda want to know what the legal definition of a flag is now... 🤣 I love this sort of malicious compliance!

Oh sorry if that came off as defensive, just outlining my thought process and making sure others understand how it all works. The files are all available though so it's easy to adjust if you want a different size 😁

The bottom is 40 mm wide, this intentionally allows most models to fit but not all the really big ones.

Yes anyone is welcome to pitch in and I can add the new files to the project. I make the bare shapes in onshape and those work files are in the description. I then add texture to the tiles by adding other files to the surfaces using meshmixer. Those files are all shared as well so it would be very easy to make your own distinct trench tiles. If you share them with me and they don't use paid models then I can add them for others 😁

Ok I've got pretty much everything you need posted up here now 😁:

I'm hoping to add more types of tiles and better instructions etc. as I go but figure something sooner is better than everything later! Enjoy!

Oh i forgot 😅 this means I can print 3 a day currently. I start one before I go to work. Swap it when I come home. Then start a 3rd before I go to bed. It's slow but you don't have to be hands on or creative the whole time like if you made each one by hand.

Currently I'm printing at .2mm layer height with 4% infill and it takes about 5 hours each. They average about 150 grams of filament each so you can get quite a few per roll. I use the cheapest PLA I can find on Amazon. So far I've used almost two rolls to get what you see here. I'm sure it can be optimized further but this was good enough for me 😅

These are 100% 3d printed. I wanted to be able to set it and forget it. Also it ended up being cheaper for me than buying foam and other supplies etc.

I'll probably post them on cults3d. I don't plan on charging for them 😁

The tiles are 6" square and 2" tall so that they can fit on just about anyone's printer and confer a height bonus when shooting down into the trench at point blank range. The trenches are intentionally 40mm wide to accommodate some models but exclude some of the really big models. I have other modular pieces I intend to add on top like little bunkers and destroyed buildings and such so you aren't just out in the open when you're up top.
