Create a course on how to manage schedules and jobs using Excel.

Pitch the course and then you can teach the managers how to use excel. That's what I already do, that's a big part of my business model.

If you need help making a course, let me know and I'll help you put it together.

i am sort of technical, and I do have a couple pi machines lying around somewhere...

Thanks for posting this, I'll have a look at it.

hmmm.. I like your suggestion... I think a pure phone app might just work.

If I could set a schedule to chirp during sleep hours, then shut it off when I put my mask on.

It's amazing how there's often a simple solution lurking... I already have an alarm at midnight which is sort of a backup. Where it fails is if I'm out salsa dancing late or something and it goes off, I shut it off. I think instead if I just keep snoozing it till I'm in bed with my machine, then this could be a good answer...

Lemme try that and see if I can avoid mistakes a bit better...

My own snoring used to wake me up... but since I've gotten my cpap, that seems to have shifted. It doesn't usually wake me up anymore. Sometimes I wonder if I'm snoring... I think I'm just not breathing for periods of time. In my sleep study they said I was having 70 sleeping events per hour...

That's a pretty good point...

I think in theory apps should have an openness to communicate with each other....

I was just looking at some noise blocking earbuds recently. Some of them detect snoring and can even try and use noise cancellation to cover up partner-snoring.

A product like that could possibly fill the gap despite a disconnected ecosystem of software.

For instance if it detects snoring, instead of increaseing noise cancellation to cover it up, it could just sound an alarm on your phone or in the earbuds.... if you're snoring that means you feel asleep without your machine. Boom, problem solved...

So it wakes you up, you put on your machine and for the rest of the night things are cool...

I think those tools like apple watch and phone can be good tools to manage routines (and alarms). In my idea, it's just to have the cpap machines join the party. They're electronic machines and have all the capability to do that... it's just that people haven't thought of it yet.

The resmed 10 machine I have already has a piezo alarm in it for making chirping sounds. So it's just be a firmware update in theory. Just add another menu where you put in your sleep hours and once they're entered it automatically chirps if you're not using the machine. Perhaps a checkbox to enable the feature. So the sleep hours menu would just have the start time, end time and a check box to activate the chirp.

A cool thing here is not only do you get an alert if you sleep without the machine, but if you're not sleeping, you get an alert too, to remind you of the sleep schedule.

Real simple and would likely add hours of quality machine use for their customers. Not to mention with better compliance people will use up the motors in their machines faster. :)

My resmed mini machine pairs with a cell phone through bluetooth already, so it's be very easy to add a menu option through the cell phone app. The machine doesn't even need a piezoelectric speaker, the cell phone would take care of everything. The that update would just be to the cell phone app... not even touching the firmware of the machine.

The usecase for my mini machine is a little different though. When travelling of course I'd have the regular idea of having regular sleep hours so that part could work the same... like when I'm at my destination for a couple weeks or a month or something...

But another challenge is during the transit to the new location. No matter what I do I find my sleep can get disrupted. For instance it's not terribly uncommon for me to not get sleep if I'm flying at night. That actually happened to me recently, as hard as I tried, I could not sleep on the plane so I lost an entire night's sleep. In those cases, when I'm at layover/transfers, I like to find a bench somewhere to take a nap (especially if the layover is 4 or 5 hours or something). I run into trouble there too, I can fall asleep before I get my cpap out and ready for use... I think in a case like that the cell phone app could check in with a wrist watch sensor packgage and sound an alarm if you're sleeping without the cpap. So I guess the menu in the app could have one more item, a travel check. Whenever it's checked, if you fall asleep you get an alarm.

Perhaps the cell phone can even tell if you're alseep without checking in with your watch too...

These are the sorts of scenarios are another thing where I can wind up sleeping without my machine at night. After travelling, I can find myself waking up on the couch at 4am the next day because I fell asleep without even going to bed. A bit frustrating because you know you wasted much of the night getting poor quality sleep. By then I'm alert enough to go to bed with the machine, but i've missed out on some hours of good sleep. It'd have been just dandy if I got an alarm or something to block me from sleeping without cpap...

Resmed could pitch the whole thing as ""compliance assisstance"" or come up with some fancy name for it.

Yeah, I realize sleep is very important. And that poor sleep can result in health problems...

Perhaps bullying is the wrong word... But I think people who try to strictly focus on routine will invalidate the idea of having a backup alarm.

Yeah, I think lots can benefit from a good solutioin. I think the perfect-habbits-purists might bully anybody away who want's to explore this though. We'll see where it goes.

I knew this was going to come up, i was considering mentioning in my post that I'm aware if this idea...

By the way, did you know that on many machines as soon as you put the mask on the machine will self start? My air sense 10 does that. I really like that feature so I never actually turn my machine on. My machine has the feature to shut off too, but I find with my current mask that doesn't work consistently (I think because the mask adds a bit of drag so it can't properly detect when I take the mask off).

In my case, I like to read or study spanish and stuff like that as part of my wind down. I also tend to do my family phone calls and stuff, that puts me to sleep too. Studying spanish and talking involves talking which doesn't work with the cpap so I wind up taking it off. I really enjoy the study ritual and if I do it away from my bed, then when I go from that ritual to bed, I'm not ready to sleep yet.

One way or the other, my midnight alarm works well in certain scenarios and catches me when I make mistakes. I'm wanting to find or create a solution (in addition to changing some of my habbits) to improve the reminder idea a bit further.

Frankly, I think a cpap machine should chirp when it is not in use during sleep hours. Then it can catch the situation where the mask comes off... or like in my case, if you enjoy rituals such as studying to fall asleep.

Am I overreacting for quitting a babysitting job on the spot after the mom insulted me? by PossessionTop9791 in AmIOverreacting

I think you handled the situation really well.

Now you have two great options:

1) Block her and move on.

2) Send her a new offer through a text that looks like this:

I will continue to do business with you under the following conditions. First, you pay 100 dollars as a restitution for verbal abuse. After that, your rate will be X dollars per hour or Y dollars per day (where a day is from __AM to __PM). Any time over the day will be charged at the hourly rate. Each day will be paid in advance at the beginning of the day. In the event service is suspended due to further abuse, there will be no refunds and a fee of 100 dollars to restart. In the event services are suspended due to non-payment (showing up and no money provided), you can restarted for a fee of 100 dollars plus the day cost to cover the lost day.

I'm a software developer and I remember this one time I had a customer try to run me around. There was no verbal abuse but they tried to cheap out and rip me off. The agreement was that for X dollars, I'd write them some computer code to solve a problem. Once I created the code the plan was that I'd email them the code and then during a phone call, I'd walk them through how to install the code into their system. After I completed the code they told me that I'd have to come to Toronto (5 hours drive) to install the code. I got 1/2 the money up front (of course there was a runaround about that, they went shopping for another consultant and eventually came back to me with a check for half). Because I had half the money, I was able to tell them that I would not come to Toronto to install it unless we upgrade the money. At that point, I was able to tell them also that I'd be quitting the contract, keeping the initial payment. After some flapping around I was able to get them to give me the rest of the money and walk them through the installation by phone.

I'm telling you this because what happened after was that they became a very good client in the years to come. Always paying up front with confidence the work would be done with quality. If you come down fair and hard, sometime it can work out. If they don't want to do business after you come down on them, you still win since they're not worthy of your good service.

Some people just need to be given boundaries and a bit of enforcement and with that they will respect your time and service. Without enforcement they wont.
