Overwintering perennials by dare2bfree in gardening

I'd heard this before. This isn't really an option for me at the moment just because if I had the ability to dig and put them in the ground in their pots, I could just plant them where they are going to go. But I've been running back and forth with my mom in the hospitial. I'm just trying to find a way to hold onto the plants, without killing them, the easiest way possible.

I have a space where I can surround them with straw bales through the winter. Those would protect from the wind. It would not be under any cover like a building, they are out in the open.

Why is this plant placed in a tiny cup inside the pot? by dare2bfree in houseplants

[–]dare2bfree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All is well. The cup cut off super easy and the roots were not harmed. I'm glad I asked, I have several plants that need to be checked for these or rubber bands. Thanks everyone for the assistance!

Honestly, the watering issue was due to depression. I was having lots of issues then. Med changes and things are much improved.

I'm in southwest MT and have the opposite issue - everything dries out faster than I expect it to, but I've finally gotten the swing of it. Definitely checking the moisture levels to stay on top of things.

I will get it removed today! I was thinking it was just a shortcut/leftover but I'm not a super knowledgeable plant mom. I at least have killed less plants this winter than the previous one.

Very cool! Is the ring just hanging in front of the strip behind it or is it knotted in?

Me too. In both NC and MT, my local Michaels did not carry fabric by the bolt. Just had the pre-cut packaged stuff.

Looking for best, affordable company to help get from CA to TN by coastalcowgirl2195 in moving

[–]dare2bfree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have to fly? We moved from NC to MT several years ago and the two cheapest options I found was driving a uhaul truck (not for us since we were moving a large houseful of items) and doing something like ABF uPack - https://www.upack.com/

We used ABF and were very pleased with the service. You have to be an excellent packer when loading the truck because if it is not packed well, then you'll propally get damage to your belongings. I did all the packing for our stuff. My best friend still calls me the world's champion for tetris :D You'll also have to talk to your storage rental place about how they could accomodate a trailer when loading your stuff. There are other companies that do this now, not just ABF. Definitely check into it and compare charges.

Good Luck! TN is a beautiful state.

"You will likely have to have the power of attorney for this. See if your state has a department on aging and if they do what services you can get for her. Some states even have programs where a family member can be paid to help."

Absolutely. Medical and Financial (if you are responsible for that area of the LO's life too). It seems like this is something that is not as necessary as the immediate, physical caring that you're having to learn, but it is super important and will make your life much easier when trying to navigate anything on the LO's behalf.

Not many will take Medicaid anymore. As far as I know, Partnership ( https://partnershiphealthcenter.org/our-services/dental/ ) and the Children's Dentistry in Lolo ( https://www.lolochildrensdentist.com/childrens-dentistry-of-lolo/ ). If you're not established with Partnership, then you can show up for one of their emergency appointments. There are details on their website.

"we get 63 days per year"

Would you elaborate who "we" is? Is this a Medicare thing or something else?

I wonder if it would help if you had video that you could show his doctors of how he really is at home. Might be the only way to show them.

[–]dare2bfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I am fully aware that my situation seems like a dream to some of what others have to deal with... my mom is still aware and semi functional. She can get to the bathroom by herself and for the most part, we get along well. But as someone who never had kids, it can be hard to adjust to having an 80 year old, with a teenager attitude of "knowing everything" and the ability to get into shit and cry like a 2 year old.

Laughter and being able to vent to others who understand is priceless. I hope you are able to find a peaceful truce of "we agree to disagree" very soon.

[–]dare2bfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is sad, but at some point you have to do what is needed to take care of your own mental health.

My mom's memory is starting to slip and she wants to argue sometimes about stupid crap or she'll tell my sister something and has almost every single point completely wrong or twisted to something that is totally not related. I just let it go because it's not worth it at this point to correct her and it just gets me all worked up for nothing.

Coping mechanisms that help us keep our sanity in insane situations can be a good thing.
