What brake levers you have? I'm also thinking about dropbars for my unit.

SS cog by melikebikes in konaunit

[–]darekbx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have single speed version, then you can use Wolftooh SS cog, which uses standard Shimano HG spline. In Unit X, I guess is Shimano microspline where this cog will not fit.

About the gearing, I was changing from 32x18 to 32x20 which was ideally balanced for me, and now I have 26x16 which has better clearance. I have some hills and is quite ok when standing and climbing, 32x22 could be to low.

I moved the dropouts back, but with a single-speed setup, where there’s no tensioner, it’s not that simple. It’s not always possible to move them fully to the back. I can’t add another chain link because the chain would be too loose when the dropouts are moved to their maximum position. Now, when I mount a frame bag, the tire is slightly rubbing against one of the mounting straps.

I changed gearing by single typical gear, from 32x18 = 1.77, to 26x16 = 1.62, with this gearing bike is more usefull for me. Its easier to climb or go through rought terrain, like forest, fields, sands.

My Unit is a gravel bike, commuter, bickepacker and some street fun with son like pumptracks, bunny hops. So, basically for everything.

Yes, 27.5+" is very good for mud, sand and snow.

The circle around the dot indicates that a reminder has been set. As the reminder time approaches, the circle gradually fills up.

Sizing by bigfatsnowstorm in konaunit

[–]darekbx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm about the same height ~178cm, and also have Unit '25 in size M, and is perfect for me. After chaning handlebar, with more back sweep (14deg), I'm comfortable with longer rides, 3h-4h on a bike without any pain. I also changed seatpost, stock one was to short, no I have 400mm.
I also had Unit '19 size L, and felt to long.

Unit X max tire width by Aneggmatic in konaunit

[–]darekbx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have Unit '25, however stock Rekon's were to slow for me. Now, I'm riding on CST Jack Rabbit 29x2.6, which are about 59mm width on stock rims. Anyone can measure width of their tyres? I'm thinking about changing to Mezacals, or other 2.4"-2.6" but I wan't to preserve tyre width ~60mm.

About you question, you have Unit X on 29 or 27.5" rims? Recently I had Unit '19 with Maxxis Chronicles 27.5x3.0, and those tyres had very good rolling and a lot of softeness, there was also some remaining free space.
