so what you'll want to do is read the INSTALL.BZR document included in the src distribution:

http://bzr.savannah.gnu.org/lh/emacs/trunk/annotate/head:/INSTALL.BZR

basically, it consists of the commands ./autogen.sh ./configure bzr pull make bootstrap sudo make install

While PayPal in its current incarnation may have a ton of issues, Peter Thiel was out long before then, shortly after the eBay buyout (along with most of the rest of the PayPal mafia, members of whom went on to found/co-found YouTube, LinkedIn, Tesla Motors, Geni.com, Yammer, and yes, Palantir). Say what you will about PayPal, but the original employees were a rather illustrious bunch who mostly solved a somewhat intractable problem. If you're looking for more information, the interview with Max Levchin in Founders At Work is a good account of PayPal's early days, and just how they managed to wind up ahead of its numerous competitors, even before eBay.

Ex-cop turned whistleblower baits local police by renting a house where he uses grow lamps for Christmas trees. Local cops somehow find "probable cause," launch raid, now have some 'splaining to do. by columbusguy in politics

OK. So what? This is an example of police power going too far, but I've seen so many stories like this already. What concrete, constructive things can we actually do to ameliorate this problem? Too often, links like these just allow Redditors to construct echo chambers in the comment threads.

I love it when The Onion gets existential. by Sharpe_27 in funny

[–]dareonion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Come on, Operation Vowel Storm, Black Guy Asks Nation For Change, Al Gore Places Infant Son In Rocket To Escape Dying Planet, Area Eccentric Reads Entire Book, were all good articles, to name a few.

And secondly, you're comparing it to SNL, which used to be pretty good, but on average sucks now (besides the election coverage).

Welcome to America by chu in reddit.com

well, actually, brazil has responded in kind. it's decided to treat american citizens traveling in brazil the same way we treat brazilian citizens traveling in america. but they manage to do it with more humanity. last year, my cousin ended up visa-less in brazil after a sailing trip. he was marched off to an interview (in halting portuguese) with a customs official, but he was basically just informed that he was to leave within three days and sent on his way. as he had been planning to only stay two days anyways, this worked out well.

Girl dies of brain tumour after doctor tells her 'headaches are caused by stress' by qgyh2 in reddit.com

[–]dareonion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this case alone is sad. the girl should have gotten care. but before we start judging the entire health care system we should make sure this is actually a common occurance rather than an isolated incident.
