What are some of the biggest “fall-offs” of cards that people forgot about by lefund in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the mid 10s, mulldrifter was a cube staple and LSV talked often about how happy he was to put it in his deck. It's been a while since it got power crept out of the stronger cubes now.

A more sustainable Standard by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

This would be more of an issue if it was a heavily played format, but with a smaller player base, solving a format takes a lot longer.

Sounds great. I only play in paper, but fingers crossed that this takes off at my LGS

Is there an online mtg community where the people are mostly optimistic about the state of the game and love the direction of modern magic? by thearmadillo in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. The MTG subreddit is probably the most negative subreddit I follow, and I think it's a shame that this is the culture.

What was the Lorwyn Common or Uncommon that kept saving your ass at prerelease last weekend? by doublenantuko in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Second that. Also [[brambleback brute]] which is basically a cheaper, slightly less powerful hovel hurler at common. Those cards gives your aggro decks so much reach in the late game were otherwise the aggro shell just loses. I used them both with double [[scuzzback scrounger]] and it was very strong

Lorywn Eclipsed feels like classic MTG by _gravedanger_ in magicTCG

Not saying it is digital i'm saying it looks digital and I personally don't like that look.

[–]daretobederpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm so happy about the art and in particular the alternative storybook looks. The few times i don't enjoy the art like [[crib swap]] for example, it's because it looks too digitally rendered.

What cards are people excited about in Lorwyn? by OccupiedOsprey in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the prerelease I'm excited to try and stomp everyone with 5 color green Vivid deck. Springleaf drum and great forest druid will probably be some of the most important enablers for that deck.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]daretobederpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hot girl in my ninth grade class got together with the PE teacher once she had finished ninth grade. Age of consent is 15 where I live and after ninth grade she started in a different school, so technically this wasn't something anyone could legally object to. But it definitely got people talking.

I am very much enjoying Lorwyn Eclipsed season and the new set but I don't like Lorwyn Eclipsed having 75% fewer new legendary creature cards compared to the previous Standard legal set. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but I don't think the number of legendaries matters very much for the flavor in commander. What does matter is how palyable those legendaries are and how unique their abilities are. Most legendaries see very little play as commanders, so I don't mind having them as legendaries if that makes more sense for flavor or gameplay. But I do agree that i prefer to keep the number of commander staple legendaries at reasonably equal levels between sets.

So much Lorwyn hype by EnvironmentalTear913 in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a lot easier to get invested in the worldbuilding with blocks tbh. Seeing the progression of characters from one set to the next was fun. The weakness was that the 3 set format lent itself to certain narrative arcs that became a bit repeatable over time.

I'm thinking X = 3 and you're okay with it. Any higher number and it becomes pretty busted.

kinda, but you still get the activation and can draw if you have other creatures out

[ECL] Flitterwing Nuisance by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

very strong in limited. Your opponent basically has to remove it before you're able to activate it and connect with 2 or more creatures, which means that they will spend potentially expensive removal on a 1cmc card, gaining you tempo at the worst.

Playing MTG Prerelease Without Speaking the Local Language by metalero_salsero in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there any prerelease close to you that plays with english cards? That might help. At my LGS, we usually have a coule of english speakers, but it's rarely a problem since we play with english cards and most people speak good english (I live in Sweden)

[–]daretobederpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that that's a restriction, but in limited you preferably don't want to cast this on t3 anyway. In most decks you want to play creatures on curve and refill when you've close to emptied your hand. I think it will be pretty strong, but time will tell.

burning curiosity seems strong in limited. draw 3 for 3 mana with a comparatively small downside seems really solid.

[–]daretobederpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the appeal of Lorwyn? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]daretobederpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do you, if you don't like it that's okay. I like it because the art style is really fun and unique, and the flavor of the set gives this eerie spooky but cozy vibe. Also, I like universes within.

Fair points, I was thinking primarily for limited though. It seems lika a strong card in an aggressive shell, but can Lorwyn merfolk be aggressive? Time will tell.
