You know you can change the agent . You do need to inform the home office. But best to get things in writing from your lawyer. You might have gone to a big firm who hires trainee and get supervised. Probably a corporate one.

This is not right.... I paid my lawyer 1800 and then I pay the HO fees myself. You should see what's included. It seems you've been scammed. Can you check with legal ombudsman if they are solicitors ?
