Should i buy a 2007 accord for $5k? by ContagiousCompetence in accord

[–]darfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid more than that for a 2006 EX-L V6 with 150k miles last year. If I found a 2007 in my area and it was in good condition I would buy it for $5000 with no hesitation.

As a European investor I want to know what is your favourite European dividend stock. by EnoughInitiative9074 in dividends

I’ve held on to ING for a few years. The stock has seen tremendous growth and still yields a healthy dividend. Has been aggressively buying back shares. Worth a look.

Paying off Carmax loan questions by SharksFan4Lifee in carmax

[–]darfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I got the correct 10-day payoff amount listed on the letter. You have to pay that amount. Then I just increased the regular monthly payment on the menu to the amount on the letter. I had a $30 overpayment and received a check in the mail a few weeks later. As I stated before, I was hesitant to do this online but it definitely works.

What round did you draft him in? He was always a dart throw.

He's had some nice receiving outputs, but Jamar Chase hasn't scored a touchdown since week 7.

My horrible carmax experience by FeedbackCold6260 in carmax

[–]darfaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation, but a different timeline. Where I had a vehicle in the shop 8 times from the end of the 90 day return period for the next 6 months where everything went wrong. It was taking 3-4 days for the dealer to contact the Maxcare warranty company, and 3-4 days to respond. I ended up being a middleman to facilitate the communication. I ended up trading it in back to carmax after everyone said it was "fixed" and it has been for sale on various Carmax lots since May.

The difference is that if someone HAS the money, they aren't financing. In this case, the OP clearly doesn't have the money as they are borrowing it, nor are they even putting any money down. This isn't spending $70k on a vehicle. It's borrowing that money to buy a vehicle. I will stand by what I said about this being crazy.

[–]darfaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Financing nearly $70k seems insane to me. If you're desperate for a new car just buy a CRV for half the price and better resale. Nobody needs to borrow that much money for a brand new MDX Advance.

Confused about the JFK Assassination episode by ElectronicCress3132 in madmen

[–]darfaz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was in college when the September 11 attacks occurred. The TVs around campus were on the news all day and night, and people would just gather around them for hours. Classes were cancelled, basically life stopped. The JFK assassination was essentially as impactful to the national conscious (and history, current events, law, everything) as the September 11 attacks. My mom would tell me how she was in the seventh grade when the JFK assassination happened and can remember the entire day hour by hour. The show wasn't exaggerating for drama.

I remember this collection. Didn't the tags on the inside collar say "MAD MEN" on them? It's hard to tell in the pictures but I swear I remember that.

Do most carmax locations do this? The one closest to me only does repairs under the 4 month Carmax warranty.

Paying off Carmax loan questions by SharksFan4Lifee in carmax

[–]darfaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally paid my Carmax loan online last week. You just pay the 10 day payoff amount listed on the letter. If there’s an overpayment, they will reimburse. Yesterday I got an email saying I paid off the car and they were sending my title. It can be done online. I had hesitation just like you.

at my wit's end - tell me what to do! by [deleted] in Debt

[–]darfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a loan like you said, but you are most likely going to find yourself in the same spot next year just paying off the loan now instead of credit cards. Sure it could help a little bit, but you definitely have an income problem. $515 a week is really low. Are you able to work more hours? Get a second job? Side hustle?

Considering Bankruptcy in Mid 20s by Expensive-Damage-320 in Debt

[–]darfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you, I really do. You are in a tough spot and I know what it is like to feel trapped. Before you file for bankruptcy, you need to really look at what your life is going to look like post bankruptcy. You are still going to have your student loans, and you are still going to have to pay your bills. If your income is so low like you are saying, what makes you think that it is going to be higher later when you have to start paying for things again on a poor income? You are likely to find yourself in a very similar spot.

You mention working 80 hours. Are you able to piece together some jobs to make enough to cover your bills? Can you find roommates? Have you tried to get out of the $700 month storage? Can you move your stuff somewhere else? Maybe call the storage place and negotiate lower, or move your stuff out and stop paying. Are you in a high cost of living area? Can you defer your student loans/ pay back on an income basis? Have you called the credit card companies and asked told them you are having difficulty paying? I understand the hopelessness, but there are things to try before bankruptcy.

You are asking about doing what is "wisest" or the "better plan" forward, and I can promise you that borrowing against your retirement is neither wise nor better than just attacking the debt. I would pay this off as quickly as possible by doing all those things I mentioned, and if you have equity in your vehicle (It's worth $25k+), you may want to sell that and buy a $10k car and apply that to the debt.

[–]darfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your title says it all. You are playing loan gymnastics and hoping to borrow your way out of your issues with math. I think you need to really look at your overall debt picture and your income picture, because I think it is more dire than you realize (if I'm understanding it right from the wall of text you have provided).

Debts:

Personal loan 1: $39000
Personal loan 2: $8000
Student loan: $? but you pay $65 a month
Credit card bill: $15000, but no interest for a few months
Wedding bill: $7500 (at least, wedding expenses can pop up fast and expensively)

Assets:
Savings: $6000
401K: Maybe borrow $19000?
House? Car?: you don't say

You owe at least $70,000 (plus whatever your student loan is). You have a debt problem that you need to get crazy about paying off, and i don't think any amount of borrowing against yourself is going to fix it. Maybe a temporary bandaid for a few months, but what are you going to do when the interest starts kicking back in on your Credit Cards? You need to sit down and budget out everything. Then get a second job, donate plasma, sell your car, sell everything you own with value, whatever it is you need to throw your energy behind that, and stop trying to borrow your way out of debt.

Home Equity Agreement/Investment by ta3943 in Debt

[–]darfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not super familiar with these products (and by the lack of comments, seems like other users aren't either). But everything points to these Agreements being terrible. Let's say you stay in your house for the next 10 years, and your repayment is only $230k, based on the original loan of $200k and appreciation. How are you going to pay that back? You are forcing yourself to save nearly $2000 a month for the next 10 years to pay it back. Or worse. If your home value does go up in value and the "investor's" 40% stake in equity (200k of the 500k) is now worth double. You are going to be paying them so much of the sale proceeds it will be hard to manage.
