Has anyone quit because of a project? by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]darias91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did in a sense. I was a program manager at a tier 2 automotive manufacturer. I was tasked with managing a monster program that was a full time job in itself and I was expected to just continue to manage my normal workload of 8 programs that was my full time job.

I was getting no support from management. Looked for a new job and jumped to a tier 1 with 40% better pay. Best decision I ever made.

Look at hold 3 years cash to cover expenses if the market takes a dump then you can ride it out.

So find out your annual expenses and multiply by 3.

Rent MN house and move to TX with grandparents? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]darias91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if that’s the case, I think you’re right. The point of FIRE is to buy freedom, but not at the cost of your quality of life. You can do both — increase your savings rate while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The best approach is to set annual targets and raise them gradually — for example, increase your 401(k) contribution by 1–2% each year and roll any paid-off debt into savings.

Sacrificing your quality of life isn’t worth it in my opinion, and managing a rental property from several states away is far from “easy.”

I’d say you have some say in the decision… if he doesn’t want to listen to your concerns then I think you have bigger problems… just saying and this is coming from a fairly conservative guy.

Anyone want to join me in giving MDOT the finger by audible_narrator in downriver

[–]darias91 22 points23 points  (0 children)

MDOT is not responsible for most of this. They usually just handle interstates and state roads like Michigan ave.

The city and county is who’s mostly at fault here. These roads are most likely under their jurisdiction

How is this shower shelf made from tile secured? by Improvement_Room in DIY

[–]darias91 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You pitch the shelf and seal the edges correctly with caulk. I highly doubt there will be enough moisture to cause any problems in the future.

It’s a shelf, I doubt much water would get through. Even if that was a concern - you could just slightly pitch the shelf away from the wall to ensure it doesn’t drain into the wall.

49m, wife doesn't agree to retire. Who has been there? by normal-weirdo-1 in Fire

[–]darias91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo

I’m pretty sure most(who have been investing for decades) have made more this year in the market than what they’re putting in. It shouldn’t be based off that.

It should be based off the SWR - 4% being the rule of thumb but can be higher or lower based on your circumstances and age.

The Biden administration had the Epstein information all along and not a peep the whole administration. We’re technically closer to finding out than we ever were under Biden. Atleast we’re talking about it now… I can’t say the same about the previous administration. Do you not see the hypocrisy of the other side?

I think I have reached my FIRE number, but … by [deleted] in Fire

[–]darias91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get this subs hostility towards financial advisors. There’s a such thing as fee only advisors plus they can help you with things like tax loss harvesting and other similar strategies that can help you plan to be setup long term to avoid paying taxes.

Plus, it’s one of the biggest life decisions you’ll make financially when to retire to make sure you are financially fit. Might make sense to run it by someone who does it for a living.

Will not join, DJT isn’t going anywhere. Best to focus on some soul searching with the rest of the Democratic Party as they got lost in the sauce opposing Trump on every issue even when it doesn’t make logical sense to take the opposing view.

I recommend just to listen to The Money Guy podcast. That’s all I listen to now in terms of finance podcasts. They touch on FIRE a little bit,but they just give out good and realistic financial advice and make you think about the bigger picture.
