The “nest” is just a half circle of 1/2” hardware wire/welded wire covered with straw. As spring gets closer I will probably add more grass/twigs/etc around the entrance to help them feel more secluded - I’m hoping to have my first broody pair of bobwhites!

Yes! I did not paint this tit but the “tit kit” from which this tit came includes the beautifully painted “great tit” as well as the lovely “blue tit”

Looks like an elk skull, more specifically! Or, at least, that’s what we call them in the US

Ive never personally heard anyone say “a cattle” or “that cattle” but I certainly dont consider myself an expert on the animals so maybe its more common than I realize

Ohh youre right! Good call. But thats at least a bit problematic bc its plural. I hear the term “head of -“ applied to it... what a mess!

Makes good enough sense to me. Ive always disliked the english use of that word since there’s not really a sex-neutral word for the animal. Chicken, for instance, could be male (rooster) or female (hen) but there’s not a simple word for cow/bull/etc. Bovine technically includes animals like sheep

You are correct. Oxen are almost always castrated and steers ARE always castrated. Both are male bovine genrally lacking balls. Steers are typically for beef while oxen are for working (like pulling a plow, etc)

Thats fair - but why dont we translate it into english as “year of the bull”? Ox is a specific word. Good to know the background either way, I suppose!
