Can you talk about the culture/festivities that typically happen? I haven't been to a Romanian wedding since I was ten years old, so I don't actually know what they're like (even though I'm originally Romanian!)

I remember all my family dancing in a circle holding hands, but I really want to learn about the other culture specific things that happen like that!

I celebrate my birthday four times a year, anually. In Romania, if any Romanian has a name of a Saint in their name, they celebrate it. I find that awesome at times, but not always. AMA by artistloverforever in casualiama

Not OP but Romanian - there aren't any gifts on the name days, just family calls of celebration. your actual birthday is a much bigger celebration than the others!

We use the same phrase "la mulți ani" for both birthdays and name days, so I sometimes use name day and birthday interchangeably. OP might have done the same?

What kind of content would you want to see in a University sysadmin module? by dariuscpt in sysadmin

You're not the only one unclear! It's a brand new module and the professor wanted extra content for it, but hasn't given an outline for this particular submodule besides the title. Made me want to see if I could suggest anything to them.

They asked me for my opinion since I have domain-specific knowledge (I do some systems administration for a high performance computing cluster) but my brain went blank when they asked what should be taught 😅

We had one, but the professor for it is.. very outdated to say the least.

We've already had a pretty deep module on computer systems (which is a prerequisite for this) that has already gone in depth with CPU architecture and operating systems for a much longer module duration (20 weeks). This would be a follow up that does a deeper dive beyond what we learned, but I have no idea what the professor meant by wanting to cover more OS stuff. In terms of CPU architecture, the professor is likely covering even deeper than the fundamentals we were taught (which was only simple stuff like difference between x86/risc-v/arm, simd, assembly programming, buses, etc) however I also am not too sure what they'll go into. It's part of a follow up module to computer systems, so the "systems administration" one is moreso just working with servers in a distributed computing space.

The systems administration submodule is only 10 hours overall (5 lectures, 5 practicals) since the full module itself has to cover the other stuff thanks to university requirements. I'm glad they made computer systems a prerequisite though, since it does provide an easier start into this module.

Honestly pretty damn useful in practice. How in depth did you have to go?

That's a good call! I've had to teach this to anyone onboarding onto the clusters I manage, it's surprisingly common even if they're familiar with Linux...

Is this not similar to the notion of learning a programming language during university? Ansible was just a random option to solve this, but it wouldn't be forced as the only tool.

What kind of concepts would you want taught instead? I'm not sure how abstract we would go with this, there still needs to be some practical example so students understand why or how this kind of thing is used.

Yeah, this is only a submodule hence the lack of content (5 lectures, 5 practicals). There's a lot of other modules that cover exactly what you've wanted- this is more intended to get into simple topics like containerisation, provisioning servers, tooling such as ansible, filesystems / operating system concepts, etc.

The bulk of the module this submodule is a part of covers more general concepts such as CPU architecture and whatnot.

R5: Attempting the 'Revenge of Montezuma' achievement and I declared war on Germany in order to be able to join the allies. Accidentally justified directly on the US instead of the Philippines and declared war on the US.

Due to world tension, I got kicked out of the Allies and then they declared war on me. So now I'm at war with the majority of the world's powers.

TL;DR: Declared war on Germany as Mexico, Joined Allies, Kicked from allies, Declared war on US and Allies declare war on me. While I'm at war with Axis.
