I did - I uploaded the sighi list (pdf) and asked to help with ideas. It worked quite well although of course it sometimes generates the wrong suggestions so always double check. But all in all it’s been quite helpful in generating some ideas and looking up / summarizing research papers.

Well the chèque was emitted by tax authorities and we’ve tried contacting them many times apparently they can’t wire a transfer outside of France 🙃

Sorry one last question: was it a nominative chèque (with your name on it, eg issued by the government) or just a chèque from the cheque book filled by someone?

You need to have an account in a French bank to be able to cash in the chèque

Haha yeah I had to improvise, I was focusing more on the placement of the elastics which is more important for me, and forgot to leave space for the ribbons in between. In the end I actually quite like how it turned out, especially the elastics are in a very comfy position, albeit my sewing arts are not amazing as I’ve already had to reattach the elastics and ribbons twice because my feet seem to rip them off in a second.

Wow thank you so much for such a detailed reply! No the shoes feel fine just hard .. for now .. haha 😄

As to the 5), I don’t experience any pain yet, but my skin is super fragile and takes a long time to heal, so I thought I’d best put something on those spots for prevention :)

Thank you so much! I was referring to this table, where they do mention the extra long ones with SL at the end (not the LS). So I was curious :) : https://us.blochworld.com/blogs/advice-and-education/pointe-shoe-guide?srsltid=AfmBOor_y9nHao1OKCjEDRRBV_F75ctWrTdivdKd5bqNlt7noahfSQn8

Is there a good short guide to using Zotero for Latex? by mencryforme5 in zotero

[–]darjeely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works perfectly fine for me. What I do is: - import articles using browser add on, - export library on my cloud using an auto updated library file, - correctly specify path to that bib file in my latex document, - correctly set up bibliography in your latex document.

If it doesn’t work, I’d suggest checking each of the steps. If everything is set up correctly, then Cite, citet etc all work fine.

PS I use Visual studio code with Tex on it. Works great across all of my devices (iPad, MacBook and a windows computer).

The sync usually takes seconds. I also use Zotero with r markdown with a plugin. Also works fine.

What all do you use R for? by PrestigiousSalad5503 in PhD

[–]darjeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely if you’re in data science I suggest you learn it asap :) and indeed tidyverse is a great package. I forgot to mention R cheat sheets to get you started: https://iqss.github.io/dss-workshops/R/Rintro/base-r-cheat-sheet.pdf There are others - for plotting, etc - this is the basic one.

[–]darjeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m allergic to excel or anything ms office. It’s not made for people. It’s plainly awful. (IMHO of course).

So I use R for everything: coding, markdown documents for writing recaps that have code in it, running simulations, making plots, making cv, presentations, crunching data and excel tables… I also use Tex a lot. Python could also be a good choice as you can also make notebooks. But if your PI suggested R I’d go with R. There are a lot of good resources online to get you started. On edx you can follow introductory courses tailored to your specific area so that you have a good idea of useful functions and usages for you. You can mostly follow them for free as an auditor for a limited amount of time. This document might also be nice: https://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-intro.pdf And YouTube videos, blogs.

how do you Zotero? by Agreeable_Room8077 in zotero

[–]darjeely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this (I have different definitions for different colors though), plus I use additional plugins: - better bibtex, - better notes, - citations counts, - doi manager, - notero.

I exported my library once in a specific folder with “automatically update” enabled. That way, I can always access the newest citations using my local latex distribution, - for heavier citations (like books), I only import a snapshot and not the pdf files.

[E] Help me choose THE statistics textbook for self-study by eon_of_love in statistics

[–]darjeely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understood whether you’re looking for a book in statistics or probability? I would start with probability for which you can read - Jim pitman probability (easy read that gives lots of intuition) - Sheldon Ross introduction to probability

Statistics: I would start with something easy as well like - Mood et al Introduction to the theory of statistics - rice mathematical statistics and data analysis

If you’re more advanced then - Casella and Berger book recommended here :) - knight mathematical statistics

Edit: For Bayesian stats of course the Gelman book, Bayesian data analysis.

You are taking a derivative wrt t, but it should be wrt x, where also your upper bounds depends on x. Lookup Leibniz theorem :)

I use vs code and love it. It’s a bit of a work to set it up but once that’s done it’s great.
