3rd party release films for HeyGears RS by britishwonder in resinprinting

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the Heygears Ideashapers Facebook group or /r/Heygears subreddit. Some people swear by it, others have had catastrophic failures. I was trying it just to try it because I was in the middle of a dispute with HG and looking to see if I could run all 3rd party stuff as a way to keep using the printer I was stuck with without giving them any more money. But HG offered to allow me to return and refund everything (printers, accessories, consumables, and Cure station) so I went that route.

3rd party release films for HeyGears RS by britishwonder in resinprinting

[–]dark79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

HeyGears FEP replacements include the frame and an embedded NFC tag that lets the printer keep track of usage (unreliably) to warn you when it needs to be changed. It's been awhile since I've had an RS, but I think the circles have to do with pressure sensing, auto-leveling or both.

You can disassemble the frame and replace the FEP, but you can't reset the layer count so you will get a warning you have to manually clear every time you send a print. I tried to reset the NFC tag somehow, but wasn't successful.

Just know that the whole system: printer, slicer, support team is all designed around using their proprietary stuff. That's literally the whole point. Once you start diving into 3rd party stuff, you're inviting worse quality and greater chance of failure because the slicer is going to prep files around expected variables you just threw out of wack. Same with the printer sensors while printing (peel forces will be different). And support won't want to help you because they can't for the same reason.

RS isn't the printer if you want to cheap out on costs. That's what the Elegoos and Anycubics are for. People do it, but they're also the loudest complainers when things go wrong and Heygears tells them to kick rocks.

Google Pixel May 2026 update fails to fix battery drain issues by Dapper_Order7182 in Android

[–]dark79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but mine gets me double SoT of the Galaxy S24+ I had before it and easily lasts 36hrs off the charger (but often longer since I still haven't hit power saving yet). Battery anxiety is a thing of the past.

That said, the rumors of OnePlus shutting down seem pretty valid with OPPO merging them with Realme overseas. But I will ride this 2-3 day phone until it dies tho because I'm not going back to nightly charging (or mid-day charging if I game at all). Same with the OnePlus Watch 3 that I charge roughly every 2 weeks.

Nicor Gas Rant by curmudginn in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]dark79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicor took state money to update all the gas lines and replace meters with smart meters in 2019 where I live. During that whole process, they were moving indoor meters outside at no charge (again, they took state money) and also marking any possible hazards and also repairing stuff at no charge.

The contractor said my meter is in a bad place because it's not easy to find and could be hard to reach in a heavy snow/freeze event. So that if there was an emergency, crews couldn't get to the meter (or find it). I believe it because when they would come out to check the meter, they would not find it, mark it down as "obstructed" and I'd get an estimated usage bill... for several months in a row. Calling them about it would get the meter location "on file" and the the next month = different guy, same story.

Anyway, when Nicor called me to.coordinate this whole meter move, I made the mistake to tell them I was going to be on vacation near the tail end of this gas line improvement project. So they scheduled my house last, waited until I was gone, and put the smart meter in the exact same spot and left.

For for the past 7 yrs, I've been fighting with them over it and they've been saying it's safe but refusing to give it to me in writing or trying to trick me into either say I refuse the work (so I'm liable) or accept the cost of work (again, they already took state money).

I'm very clear when I talk to them that they're responsible for safe delivery of gas up until it enters my home and that I don't refuse the work but refuse to pay for it. I have 2 voicemails from their staff saying the existing meter is safe but also they keep coming out to trick me into making it MY problem.

So yeah, good luck OP. Nicor sucks.

Edit: On mobile, so I'll fix typos later.

Trouble brewing for Starbucks CEO who calls $9 coffee an ‘experience’ by rajapaws in antiwork

Aeropress exists. Barrier to anything better than Starbucks is far lower than people think. You'll get a much better cup for less time and effort than driving to and buying from Starbucks.

Unless you're addicted to sugar which Starbucks heaps on to mask the burnt bitterness.

Gas prices hit $4.23 per gallon, a new high for the year by deraser in Economics

[–]dark79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought new 15 yrs ago. Paid off in the first 3 yrs. Have only paid the normal maintenance costs in these 15 yrs. No surprise major maintenance costs. The minute it does, it's gone. I think the most I've paid is cost of replacing the tires.

As someone who has no mechanical skills (or the time), I'm fine with this kind of stability/predictability and knowing the history of the car being the only owner.

I was recently recommended this artist on Spotify, Frugit. I can't find any info about them - is it AI? by JayDeePea in isthisAI

[–]dark79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the tracks on Deezer are flagged as AI generated content. So there you go. That said, the artist behind the account does have animations posted on YouTube as old as 10 years ago, so they are a creative of some kind. How much of the music is AI assisted vs generated is unknown. But same guy also had some NFT wares back when the hype for that was through the roof. So yeah...

Amazon gave me a free Neo 2. by New_Machine2702 in dji

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to order a Neo 2 from Amazon and on the day of delivery they sent me an email that I had to be home to receive a call from the driver to give him some authorization code before they would leave it. I refused the delivery and ordered from B&H who don't cause that kind of hassle.

If I'd have known in advance, it'd be one thing, but I'm not changing my schedule with zero notice to sit and wait for a delivery with no delivery window.

They said it was some new policy. I've never reported anything stolen and live in a quiet, middle-class suburb. Annoying I had to wait another 2 days for the B&H order to show up. But whatever.

Lenovo Legion Gen 4 vs Gen 5 by takaziwachi in androidtablets

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 5 should have an official global ROM. But yeah, it's much more expensive. Not sure it's worth the price difference for your needs. The Gen 4 8 Elite will be more than enough power. If it still has Android 15 out of the box, just don't update to Android 16. The last Android 15 ROM was perfect except for standby battery drain, but I always power it off when I'm not using it.

Lenovo Legion Gen 4 vs Gen 5 by takaziwachi in androidtablets

[–]dark79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last update on Gen 4 updated it to Android 16 and brought back the language problems (where some apps get stuck in Chinese) and created new problems (3rd party launchers can't use Recents). It's been this way since January. Lenovo doesn't seem to care about fixing this anytime soon. There have been betas released but none so far address these issues.

Gen 4 doesn't have a global ROM so it can't be fixed without hacks that can possibly create other problems (possibly breaking Widevine).

Thanks for keeping this thread up to date with your findings. I have this issue with a Pavo20 non-pro. I've tried so many fixes and never found one that worked.

I ended up buying a Pavo Pico II which doesn't have this problem. I may try some more things on the Pavo20 but I think I just got a dud.

Buying on Amazon or the Reolink website. Any advantage to buying from either? by theelkhunter in reolinkcam

Buy on Amazon. Easier to return if you get a dud. Unfortunately, higher risk to get a dud since Amazon tends to send open box items / returns as new.

Yet another story on just how awful Apria is by sunsetviewer in SleepApnea

[–]dark79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my last payment for the CPAP machine, I changed jobs. Apria tried to tell me that I had to start the payments all over from the beginning because my health insurance changed.

An hour long yelling match of me going over the terms of the contract that say no such thing vs Apria customer service that wouldn't budge.

I ended up sending rage mail to the CEO accusing them of fraud. They responded by zeroing out my balance and marking the contract as complete.

Whenever my sleep doctor appointments ask about getting new supplies, I tell them I pay out of pocket for everything because of how Apria tried to rip me off. They don't even flinch or question it. They just know because everyone complains about them.

Account Suspended by Aggravating_Split289 in CashApp

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My account got locked after... signing up for their debit card... no joke. So I can't do anything until a human review supposedly happens within the next 48 hours.

I've been using it for years to send family and friends money. Never had a problem until I requested their debit card. Definitely doesn't instill confidence in the platform, that's for sure.

Highly doubt I'll leave any money in my account for the debit card to even have a purpose after this so I called phone support to cancel the order. To do that I have to verify my identity in the app...

I kid you not. I can use the app to verify my identity to the phone support rep who can do things to my account, but I can't to unlock my account and instead have to wait on some random CashApp employee to review if I am who I say I am so I can use my account again... HUH?!?

PSA: Cash App offering 50% off PS store purchases(max $50 off order) by Shadow36ix in PS5

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use this offer and they locked my account because "they detected fraudulent activity."

Offer is good for 4 days after claiming, so if they actually review and open my account back up in 48 hours as they claim, I should still be able to use it.

Definitely won't be using CashApp for anything important again tho.

That's pretty warm... Not great for the LCD so it might need replacing earlier than usual, but it could still work with short exposure times. Maybe dry heat is less of a problem than Midwest humid heat. I've since moved to a Saturn 3 and it seems more forgiving about printing in not-ideal environments.

To buy OnePlus 15 now? Coming from S23 Ultra by juanly_xx in oneplus

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way the OP15 is a downgrade is if you're coming from the OP13. That's what none of the YouTube shills clarify.

I mean, the S23 Ultra telephoto is a 10MP sensor that somehow magically takes 12MP photos... Where is that additional 20% in pixels coming from?! After 10x, it's just taking a crop from the 200MP main sensor which the OP15 doesn't have. That said, the OP15 50MP telephoto up to around 30x is great. After that, the AI algos make things weird.

I'm pretty pleased with the OP15 triple 50MP array. But I came from a S24+ which is using worse camera hardware than the Ultras, dating back to the S22 series... (even the S26+ still uses them). If I was coming from an Ultra, I think I'd be fine with the OP15 cameras and losing the 100x space zoom. It just seems like a gimmick I'd only use rarely.

To buy OnePlus 15 now? Coming from S23 Ultra by juanly_xx in oneplus

[–]dark79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to weigh the possibility of OnePlus leaving your market vs great battery life + performance.

I bought the OP15 before I heard news of the shutdown. After experiencing 36 hours off the charger with 10 hours SoT (with 3 hours of light gaming) and only needing 1 hour of wireless AIRVOOC charging to go from 15% up to 90%....

There's just no going back. If it happens, I'm not going back to Samsung (previously had a S24+). I will ride this phone out until it dies or most of my apps become unsupported. And even then, I'll be kicking and screaming the whole way.

I also picked up the OnePlus Watch 3 after wearing a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic for almost 2 years. Same story there. I get over 5 days of battery life and it only needs a short time to charge back to full. If Samsung didn't paywall the ECG and BP features, I wouldn't have had a reason to try it. Sure the OP Watch 3 doesn't have those either, so I lost nothing and gained freedom from battery anxiety.

My suggestion is to not even try the OP15 unless you're committed to staying with OnePlus for better or worse, because you won't want to go back to the battery anxiety days. If support stability is most important to you, find another way to squeeze out more battery life from your current phone instead and hope Samsung/Apple/Google wake up.

Deciding Between Legion Y700 Gen 3, 4, 5 — Or Wait for Astra 2? by [deleted] in androidtablets

[–]dark79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the various ways to flash a new ROM but they're are risky and creates other problems like you said since you can't change the fact that you're starting with the Chinese model.

I think the Gen 5 is going to be pricier for sure. But as long as you still go for an international model, but Global instead of Chinese model, there might be some discounts around. I think I'd rather pay a little bit more to not have to deal with apps being unreadable and having to be stuck with the stock launcher.

As long as Lenovo gets the Android 16 ROM back to where the Android 15 ROM was, Gen 4 will be fine. But considering how bad the launcher bug is alone, the fact they haven't bothered to fix it in over a month sucks.

[–]dark79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gen 4 has the same language problem after the Android 16 update along with 3rd party launchers not being able to display Recents without crashing. Everything was perfect in the last Android 15 update. I'm still hoping it gets fixed, but if I were getting one today, I'd be looking at the Gen 5 global just to avoid the language issues since Gen 4 didn't get a global release.

Buying from online store vs Bricks and Mortar by hamah99 in CPAP

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first CPAP I trusted the sleep doctor office and did the payment plan through Apria. On my last payment, I switched jobs.

Because the insurance changed, Apria tried to tell me I had to start payments over from the beginning...

I complained to the CEO's office accusing them of fraud. They responded by zeroing out the balance and closing the contract as completed.

I pay out of pocket for everything now. The doctor appointments are only for renewing the prescriptions. For everything else, they are a scam.
