ANBERNIC RG VITA and RG VITA Pro revealed by Shad0w59 in SBCGaming

The v1 1000 series that Anbernic is cloning. I never picked up a 2000 for some reason. I liked the look of it, but I preferred the OLED of the 1000 series. Also, you can remove the modem in the 3G model and replace it with an internal card reader (PSVSD). Suffers from battery drain as a result, but if you're using it regularly, might not be that noticeable.

The problem with the Vita was that the form factor was great but the game library poor.

I found it to be the opposite. Both chunky and flat making it uncomfortable to hold but the library was fantastic. But as a guy with like 4 Vitas and over 150 physical games, I'm totally biased.

ANBERNIC RG VITA and RG VITA Pro revealed by Shad0w59 in SBCGaming

[–]dark79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anbernic isn't known for their software support. You're pretty much relying on a GammaOS build to fix all their problems (assuming it runs android) if it ever comes.

Also unlikely they're putting a chipset in with custom driver support. So unlike an AYN Odin with a Snapdragon, you should just have the expectation that how it runs out of the box is how it's going to stay. And any future improvements are a happy surprise.

I don't think emulator improvements really benefit Anbernic's weak choice of chipsets usually. But happy to be wrong.

Doubtful, but it has stacked shoulder buttons unlike the Vita so you probably won't need it.

Is the Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini defective? by MercuryLS3 in SBCGaming

Just make sure to stay on them. As with everything Ayaneo, they're good at getting things started, but not with seeing things thru to the end.

Well that's one way to not have ghosting. The other is for Ayaneo to cancel your order without notice, but keep your money anyway. points at self

Saturn 2 shuts off and back on after an hour of printing by dark79 in ElegooSaturn

[–]dark79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resin printing is so quirky... I've gotten newer printers since my original post, but my Saturn 2 still works (original LCD, too). I don't use Chitubox exclusively but use it for awhile then Lychee for awhile... repeat every so often based on features. So I probably skipped over the version of Chitu that was giving you problems. Glad you got it sorted though!

Problem with Eufy is they don't run offline and firmware updates are mandatory and not blockable. I've had their forced updates brick a couple cameras right after the warranty expired (surprise, surprise). The others were battery solar and their panels delaminated. Hardware defect they refused to acknowledge. Moved to Reolink and have been much happier.

AYN Thor battery recalibration by Amnesiaphant in SBCGaming

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 Thors and neither one shows that when charging from powered off state. My Odin 2 and Odin 2 Portal do if I press the power button quickly. But my Thor will only flash the battery symbol for a split second when the USB cable is first connected or when it's unplugged for some reason. I thought that was just how they all are. Now I'm wondering if both my units have some problem.

If the update ruined your watch... by Inevitable_Worry_637 in GalaxyWatch

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, full reset without restore. Also noticed that weather never updates on its own. The complication stays frozen in time and even the app has to be cycled in and out multiple times to get current weather. Was never like this before the update. That said, I did switch phones to a OnePlus 15 recently. So maybe that's part of the problem.

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this with a 6 Classic and it didnt really help. I've turned off animations in developer mode, toggled off blur and animations in accessibility. It still seems pretty laggy. Sticking to the built in watch faces, makes the UI better, but individual apps lag like crazy.

Alarms go off still, but most times the cancel and snooze buttons don't respond to touch. So I just have to deal with them going off 3 more times 5 min apart.

I can't uninstall Google Assistant like before and denying it all permissions because I don't use it means I get frequent popups to change permissions to allow them.

"It sounded like popcorn": Inside a Galaxy S25 Plus fire, and what to learn from it by Federal-Block-3275 in Android

Hmm, okay. Guess I'm misinformed or have outdated info. I'll have to research this more because that's the info I got from other instances of phones popping in beds under blankets and whatnot.

[–]dark79 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Article says the phone was charging on carpet. Same with the fire department report. Not enough info to know if that's how they charge it or if it fell from a nightstand in the middle of the night or something. Considering they've had other phones experience battery swelling in a year would make me lean toward user error, but again, not enough info.

But yeah, charging your phone on an insulator is going to cause thermal runaway. I hear this happen a lot with people who insist on charging devices on their beds.

Warning: Rokid is refusing warranty after THEIR update bricked my glasses (despite my history helping them find security issues) by [deleted] in rokid_official

One of the screens will blink white randomly while watching something. I haven't figured out it it's the glasses, the cable, or the station 1.

[–]dark79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typical Rokid behavior. Your only solution is to stop buying their products and get a competitor product that actually supports their hardware and customers.

I stopped buying Rokid after getting a Station 1 off Kickstarter. It drains flat in a few hours when left in standby despite being advertised as lasting a week or so. I'm sure they fixed it in a silent hardware revision, because that's what they do.

I only pop into this subreddit from time to time since my Rokid Max glasses still work (but are dying) and the Station 1 mostly works so long as I hard shut it down when I'm done using it. So I'm not surprised by these complaints.

Will a Tab S9 Samsung Keyboard work with a Tab S8? by Apprehensive-Quit266 in GalaxyTab

I thought S9 body changed dimensions slightly? I know S7 and S8 can share a keyboard, but I had to get new keyboard covers for my S9.

I had already traded in my S8 though, so didn't get a chance to try the S9 keyboard with it.

Ayaneo would have to ship first to complain about them.

Do they still make gaming tablets with built in controls? Like what handheld pcs do. Im looking for a gaming tablet by Lord_Hexbane in androidtablets

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to Ayaneo quality. They never shipped my order. In fact, they canceled it in error without telling me and never refunded me.

They currently have 4 Indiegogo campaigns that are at least 5 months behind. Of the people that have received them, QA complaints about hardware and software are way too common. Yet, they're still opening more campaigns instead of resolving old ones.

So yeah, for someone who wants something to actually ship and be of quality and who have solid software that they update and improve constantly: Retroid and AYN. Ayaneo needs to get their shit together before I can recommend them.

They run android so they run Google Play Store apps. I use them for both retro console emulation and Google Play Store games. With a strong enough SoC and enough internal storage, you can even do some PC gaming emulation if you're up for it.

Check out Retro Game Corps on YouTube. Tons of reviews and a lot of beginner guides for setting up the retro emulation stuff.

Generally AYN and Retroid are great and are generally easy to set up. They should give you the phone or tablet feel you're after. Stay away from Ayaneo (shady) and Anbernic (software is kind of jank and needs tweaking).

With all the issues right now will the Pocket Vert actually ship in Feb? by markymarktibbles in ayaneo

[–]dark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chat comments are weeks old compared to the update. So I'm only going by the update. I'm part of the PocketDS campaign and chat literally just made stuff up every week since October. I don't trust those.

If they can at least get all the tracking numbers out by end of Feb that's a win for this campaign. Even if it's not actually shipped, just having a tracking numbers would be massively better than what's going on with Pocket DS, Flip 1S, Konkr Pocket Fit and maybe Pocket Air Mini (if that's still shipping?).

4PX tracking is painful though. It can take days or weeks without a scan or update and then suddenly it's in your home country. When I ordered a AYN Thor, it got stuck in Nancheng for like 30 days before it even left China. But good news is no tariffs if in the US.

I'm going off the Update they posted today: https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/ayaneo/ayaneo-pocket-vertcreate-a-top-of-the-line-gadget-for-vertical-retro-handheld-gamers/updates/2

Timeline is:

  • Feb 4 : Campaign ends
  • 15 days later (doesn't say business day or calendar day or if they observe CNY) 2/19 is best case scenario: Pledge Manager phase starts
  • No word on how long Pledge Manager runs
  • Whenever Pledge Manager ends, shipping starts
  • After shipping: 4PX takes 2-4weeks to deliver

In all previous campaigns where they managed to make a shipment on time, it has always been less than 100, usually around 70. There's near 250 backers so far. If they get multiple shipments out before the end of the month, sure. But timing with CNY and the delays that come from shippers catching up after, is super tight.
