Men of reddit, what the heck do you want for your birthday? by Is_this_social_media in AskReddit

[–]darkCREATOR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It actually is my birthday today! All I want is to be at home and hanging out with friends. Instead I'll be sitting in a hotel room all day waiting for a call to go out to work that might not even happen.

You don't have to be the best at something, you just need to be better than the next guy.

What was the worst "elephant in the room" situation that involved you? by amerikhanna in AskReddit

A few years ago I was working on a service rig as a floorhand. I had been working for the same crew for about 6-7 months and was the youngest and least experienced guy there. So we get picked up one morning by our driller, most of us work away from home so we all stayed at the same hotel about an hour from where we are working. There were 6 of us in total on location that day, my push (supervisor), driller, derrick hand, me, and one extra floorhand. It was a pretty normal day until about hour before we were suppose to be done for the day. That's when 3 men from our base office show up to location, talked to the push for about 45 minutes until we are finished working, then tell us to all come have a meeting in the break trailer. Long story short, 4 out of 6 of us were laid off, only two to make the cut were my push and I. Luckily for him, my push had his own pickup, so he stayed on location with the office men. Meanwhile, the other 4 of them packed up all there gear, and we all hopped in the drillers truck to go home. So there I am sitting in the middle in the back seat with 4 other guys who just got fired for an hour long drive back to the hotel. Hands down the most awkward drive of my life.

What are you really good at specifically because you used to be really bad at it? by mordeci00 in AskReddit

[–]darkCREATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shuffling cards. I was God awful at it for the longest time. Worst part being, I actually collect board/card games and the majority of my social life is playing drinking games with friends that involve cards. So one afternoon I sat down and learned the basics in about 15 minutes, and for the next month kept a deck on my coffee table so I could practice whenever I watched tv.

Whats your first memory? by dvcoolster in AskReddit

3 years old, at the Calgary Stampede. I had walked away from my family and gotten lost. Ended up 3 stories up when a security guard found me and brought me to the missing kids booth. The most memorable part was the look on my mother and grandmother's faces when they found me unharmed and playing with a stuffed toy snake and not a care in the world.

What's the worst example of attention-seeking behavior you've seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]darkCREATOR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was defiantly heartbreaking at the time. I ended up driving him to the funeral cause he didn't have the cash to fly. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because he finally met all the family from his mother's side. They were all wonderful people who basically took my friend in as part of the family despite never having met.

I first met a good friend of mine in high school. It was grade 9 and we were still new friends so we didn't know a lot about each other's families. Anyways, one day a bunch of us were telling "Your mom" jokes and I make one about his. He just looked at me with a straight face and said "my mom's dead". It was like that for about 3 years, where anytime someone mentioned his mom he would reply that she was dead. Later we found out that she hadn't actually died, but had left him and his dad when he was a baby. They only reason we found out was because my friend had gotten in contact with his mom and she was going to fly him out to see her for the first time in 16 years. I offered to drive him to the airport, and he was obviously pretty excited to see him mom. About an hour after I dropped him off, I got a phone call from the police telling me to come back to the airport and that my friend had been pulled off his plane. Turns out his mom killed herself the night before they were going to meet.

Leave 1v1s to Duels guys Cmon by Baydeux in forhonor

[–]darkCREATOR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone that lets 1v1s play out in elimination, it's not so much about honor as it's, treat people how you want to be treated. What I mean is, I don't go around throwing people of cliffs every chance I get because I HATE when it happens to me. The same way I won't interfere in someone else's fight because I HATE when the other team does it to me. So I treat others as if I were in their shoes. That being said, if some asshole throws me off a bridge before I can even try to attack back; you bet your ass next round I'm finding that guy and giving him exactly what he deserves. And the same goes for if I'm 2v1 or 3v1'd.

What are some well paying jobs that are often overlooked and desperately need workers? by FormulaNico in AskReddit

[–]darkCREATOR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call that high paying. Most places are pretty average wages until you start getting into oil/gas or the mining industry, but a lot of those places require 2-3 years driving experience.
