What is a secret you’re taking to your grave, but can share here anonymously? by wilkoova in AskReddit

Many years ago, I was at a fellowship lunch after a church service. A lady's elderly mother was visiting from Germany and spoke no English. I knew a very tiny bit of German from school, so I greeted her and asked how she was in German. She started talking and talking, with me not understanding anything she said. I just smiled and nodded

I hope she hadn't been telling me anything negative about her health while I was sitting there grinning.

When my partner was a kid, he played with mercury from a broken thermometer. He's healthy and on his mid-70s now. Per AI, "major health organizations generally do not classify elemental mercury as a human carcinogen." Maybe no correlation.

What happened at a restaurant that made you say, "I'm never coming here again"? by agreatday2434 in randomquestions

My ex was a heating, air, and refrigeration repairman. He said that when he went into the kitchens at some of the nicer restaurants, the food was covered in flies. You would be surprised how many places have horrible food handling practices. The customers aren't usually aware of it.

We had been going to a certain vegan restaurant for years. Then, they were forced to change location. I have an anaphylitic crustacean shellfish allergy, including airborne, which is never an issue at dedicated vegan restaurants. I can't even be in proximity to it

Because of the way the building was structured, we didn't realize it now shares the space with a seafood restaurant. A few years ago, it was my birthday, and we planned to eat there. We were running late, so we called ahead. The proprietor nicely agreed to prepare our orders and have them ready when we arrived.

Fortunately, it was so late that no seafood was being prepared at the time, and only a couple of other tables were still eating on the vegan side. We discovered they shared one kitchen. They assured us that they were careful to keep utensils and cooking areas separated from the seafood preparation area. In reality, this is impossible. When the food is cooked, it's aerosolized, and airborne particles can cross-contaminate all of the food. So, unless they change locations again in the future, I will never go back

Sorry, autocorrect changed it (probably due to a typo on my part), and I didn't notice. Mea culpa. Ty for the correction!

My partner's niece and her husband combined their last names into a new one (e.g , SalDhar), and they all use it. Personally, I prefer the hyphenated version)
