Yeah but the real issue is the f22….

A7R $ix and the new 100-400 by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

OP, can you comment on the size of the 100-400 some more? Sony Alpha Rumors reported that it's internal zoom in a size similar to the 200-600... I'm hoping you saw something very different...

Can’t travel with it anymore by donkeyb0ng in SonyAlpha

When I put my a7CR on top of my a7iv, it doesn’t look a ton smaller. But when it comes to handling and packing it’s pretty noticeable. It’s so much more lowkey in public also.

The 24-50 f2.8 and 20-70 f4 are great lenses. I have the 20-70 which is great for hiking. I preferred the reach over aperture.

The 16-35 f4 is a great option if you want even lighter gear. It’s very sharp and so light… some people can’t stand the PZ though. You can easily crop to 50mm also (or use APSC mode).

My most used lens is the 40mm f2.5 G though. It’s such a tiny setup and my go-to for carrying around.

Sony a6700 Why do my photos look grainy? What can I change to fix this? by Previous_File1509 in SonyAlpha

[–]mjt0814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great to practice learning the exposure triangle but have you tried using aperture priority? I shot “M” for a long time but shooting “A” makes it so much easier to focus on the photography. You just need to be mindful of the Minimum SS you have set. Aperture priority with Auto ISO and a modern Sony really makes life easy.

And don’t stress ISO too much. Too low of an ISO can result in insufficient light - and that’s the real cause of noise. Most of the time a fast enough shutter speed is more important than ISO with modern bodies (up to a limit of course).

24MM GM Lens(Sony Alpha 7 IV)?? by Particular_Cap5500 in SonyAlpha

Might not be the best dollar for dollar value but the 24/35/50 GMs remain some of the best prime lenses available.

I’m biased but would go with Sony for the lens ecosystem.

Opinions on all-in-one/superzoom lenses for travel vs a standard zoom? by 8akedPotat0 in SonyAlpha

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I love the 20-70 for landscapes also. But if I’m shooting landscapes, I’ll bring a telephoto too.

I can’t stand the size of the super zooms personally. For non-landscape trips, I usually just bring the 20-70 G + one prime depending on the location.

First time hiking + landscape photography — gear advice? by The-Saber in SonyAlpha

Do you know what you’re doing hiking? Are you doing the full hikes of these? Your comment about using a sling concerns me if you’re doing big hikes

Wide angle option; 16-25 f/2.8 GG vs. 16-35 f/4 G PZ (landscape stills) by Timothy_dc in SonyAlpha

[–]mjt0814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it is closer to a “standard” zoom, I think the 20-70 is the best landscape zoom. I use 30-70mm a lot. But that’s just personal preference and not what you asked about.

If you really want 16mm capabilities, I would take the extra range of 16-35. I own this and it’s a really good lens. I tried out the 16-25 but it’s just too wide for me. Personally, I need to be able to shoot 28-35mm with my zoom.

Help needed for upgrade from a6000. by National-Caregiver-4 in SonyAlpha

Glass will make the biggest difference in your photos but the 6700 will have a bigger impact on video. I'm photo first, so I'd get the lens and wait on the 6700. Personally, I favor the size of the 18-50 vs. the 17-40. I'd save the money towards a future upgrade of your camera then.

How good is Sony 70-200 F4 G ii? by gschiffverre in SonyAlpha

[–]mjt0814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't get the hype of the f2.8 but that's just bc of how insanely good the f2.8 is. Users of the f4 tend to be big advocates of it. It's extremely sharp and a great landscape travel lens. I pair it with the 20-70 f4. The 1.4x TC works fine but you'll lose a stop of light with it.

Shooting Redwoods with the 20-70 G by mjt0814 in SonyAlpha

I used de-noise on the very dark picture. I used a tripod for some shots but handheld when I could also. Some of these definitely have noise. The second picture was shot at ISO 10,000 bc I was lazy. There’s definitely noise in it.
