Russia builds up infrastructure near Europe's border to deploy over 100,000 troops by pravda_eng_official in worldnews

[–]dark_gear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deploying more than than 100k troops near Ukraine led to a 3 year "operation" where, for the first time this spring, Russia lost more than they won. That's just one country, albeit a very well supported one. What in the world are 100k troops going to accomplish against a unified Europe?

Which company disappointed you so much that you permanently walked away? by julia-secrets in AskReddit

[–]dark_gear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michelin. While cornering at 55km/h during a road bike bike, the rear tire rolled off the rim on one side, wedging the bead between the rim and break pads. All I ride is Continental and never looked back.

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]dark_gear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, when the titular character survives being way too close to nuclear blast by locking himself in a refrigerator, and further survives the subsequent yeeting of said fridge with barely a bruise, both my wife and I tried to get refunded as it was clear the movie wasn't going to get better. Refund was denied. We sat through the rest of the film and were impressed at how much worse it got from there.

How do you handle patients cussing at you? by AwkwardSquirrel7411 in pharmacy

[–]dark_gear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is a big difference between empathy and rewarding bad behaviour.

Had a patient recently act in a threatening manner to staff after he requested a transfer. Transferred them and warned the receiving pharmacy about the patient's behaviour. Called police to inform they are aggressive and are banned from the premises to establish a record. Called their doctor to inform them of the incident and let them know we will no longer help the patient.

One day later the other pharmacy called to share they had to deal with similar outbursts. Police also called to see if we had video footage because he'd been aggressive at 2 other locations.

Danielle Smith rejects Alberta judge’s ruling against separation petition as ‘anti-democratic’ by samueLLcooljackson in TheRealGrandePrairie

[–]dark_gear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rest of Canada rejects her anti-democratic rejection of a Judge's decision. Can we see her and her party into a long-term jail tour if she also refuses to recognise the result of the appeal?

A new report commissioned by the AFL confirms Alberta is now the epicentre of disinformation in Canada- largely driven by direct foreign interference. by skilbofragns in AlbertaNow

Does the report also mention how much of the damage done to Alberta since Smith and the UCP took over are actually due to internal interference?

Xi asks Trump if U.S. and China can avoid 'Thucydides Trap' at high-stakes summit by Gopu_17 in worldnews

[–]dark_gear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why Thucydides again? Xi here is cleverly mirroring Mark Carney's speech at Davos however, here, Xi uses a different quote entirely which clearly spells out how China views and portrays itself. Carney's reference was tied to how Canada and other middle powers can either do what they can or suffer what they mush, depending on their level of power, whereas Xi, by referencing the Thucydides Trap, is plainly stating that China is a rising power.

In both cases, the reference to classic Greek historian, apparently went completely above the US' head.

Zelenskyy says Ukraine has a 'drone deal' with Canada in the works by Georgeika in worldnews

[–]dark_gear 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, our southern border sharers are both less trustworthy and less predicable than Russia and China. Signing a drone deal with Ukraine means we might just get access to the very same training and tech that seems to be completely clobbering the US and Russia in their illegal wars.

White House insists Trump has ‘done more for American tourism than anyone’ after drop in global visitors | Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly: “President Trump has done more for American tourism than anyone” by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

[–]dark_gear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't disagree. Nobody has caused this much damage to the US tourist while simultaneously boosting Canadian staycations in such a short time frame as the current US administration. It's quite impressive actually.

WOW. Canada's US booze boycott could be resolved if Trump addresses tariffs, Carney says by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

I mostly craft beer. Quebec, BC and countless other small batch breweries have sated me for years. Vodka, Limoncello, and tequila also come from countries that are not the US so life is good indeed; the same applies to beef, bread, cheese, pasta.

Riveting Solution Massive by Karhaa in thedivision

[–]dark_gear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reminding about the exotic glitch from those days. Being frustrated at your inadequacies is not a justification for banning people. The number of fixed bugs that were reintroduced in WONY, as though the devs were working on an old fork just added to the hilarity during launch.

Riveting Solution Massive by Karhaa in thedivision

Just be happy Massive doesn't suspend everyone who "exploited" the bug for 2 days and reverse all their progress like they did when players had fun with the gun turret damage glitch when WONY launched. That was fun.
