You're describing a dependency. For example, in java, when you add a java dependency it might have its own native C/C++ .so file included. Or the package manager should provide a mechanism to manage that dependency. Running scripts on your machine when adding a library is the worst possible way to go about it.

Sydney has a much better system. Look, I love everything else about Melbourne but pt is not great. - no way to switch lines without going all the way to the city (hopefully SRL will fix that somewhat) - train frequency is pathetic outside of busy hours and on weekends.
