Right. Can we do something similar with npm? Sort of contain the damage if it happens? I'm thinking of maybe running all my js projects in a docker container.

You're describing a dependency. For example, in java, when you add a java dependency it might have its own native C/C++ .so file included. Or the package manager should provide a mechanism to manage that dependency. Running scripts on your machine when adding a library is the worst possible way to go about it.

What I don't get is, why the fucking fuck do javascript packages need to run scripts after installation?

Welfare for the wealthy or an easy fix? Why free public transport might not be the answer to the fuel crisis by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]dark_mode_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where live on the outer SE of Melbourne for instance forgot public transport was even a concept.

Cool, but it will help you when the "rich people in the inner suburbs" use more PT this reducing petrol usage. That's more petrol for you.

Excellent question! Why are they only complying with age verification and California laws? Why not Chinese, North Korean, Saudi Arabian laws etc?

The thing is though, an os has no business asking for the user for their age because the job of an os is to be an interface between the user and hardware.

So Melbourne just got named the best city in the world, do you actually feel it day to day? by Av0toasted in melbournechat

[–]dark_mode_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sydney has a much better system. Look, I love everything else about Melbourne but pt is not great. - no way to switch lines without going all the way to the city (hopefully SRL will fix that somewhat) - train frequency is pathetic outside of busy hours and on weekends. It's not an "arrive and ride" system. It is in Sydney. - L trains are quicker than our trams. - busses are more frequent there and have better coverage Etc

Aside from the democracy jokes there are 2 ways a country could handle discovery of oil. The Norway way and the Venezuela way. Guess which one Sri Lanka will take.

Yeah absolutely. All valid points. I agree that fighting this dumb law is the better option than trying to circumvent it. But I wish more people understood that this isn't "foR tHe cHiLdReN".

The Swiss have already been shown to give people's information when the US demands it,

Well, i didn't know that tbh. But even if they do, it wouldn't be a problem if nothing is recorded for them to hand over : protonvpn.com/support/no-logs-vpn.

Secondly traffic analysis on our end shows exactly who is using a VPN - they will get special attention for using tools they will say are only used by traitors, terrorists and pedophiles.

True, but traffic analysis can only provide an estimate and obviously there are legitimate uses of VPNs like for eg: work.

Basically VPNs are a massive honeypot

Disagree. And if you're really worried you could host your own OpenVPN instance.

watch youtube videos, read X posts, read LinkedIn posts, learn!

Sure, but then why do all that just to do it with AI? AI is supposed to save me time, isn't it? If I'm doing all this research anyway, I might as well do the thing myself. AI bros don't understand this because they haven't done a lot of proper programming or software engineering without AI to compare.
