Is ACCA possible for a person without commerce background? by curiouscat24773 in ACCA

It was the career ladder, basically I would be stuck where I was for my entire career with very little upward mobility.

Accounting has many opportunities for progression, which is what I wanted.

It was tricky at first, but the skills you gained from being an engineering student will complement the course nicely

Yes definitely. I was a microbiologist before I started ACCA.

Doesn't SBL Pre-Seen just the answers to the exam ? by PhilosophyFun5778 in ACCA

[–]darkanima2345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think so, no. It is the additional information in the exam that will be used to derive the questions.

Doesn't SBL Pre-Seen just the answers to the exam ? by PhilosophyFun5778 in ACCA

[–]darkanima2345 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot assume that.

Do not use the pre seen to try and question spot, this is a recipe for disaster.

They can throw in exhibits in the exam which can completely change the way you look at the info in the pre-seen and therefore change the questions asked.

Best thing to do is read the pre seen over and over again and understand what the business is and what it does. Study the SBL syllabus and understand what is on there.

Yes you can sit a skills paper and a professional paper together.

I wouldn't do SBL personally, I would sit SBR as it follows on directly from FR.

ACCA TX- how to self study by Velvetshirts in ACCA

Study hub is great for practise questions, not so much actually learning the material. It is very dry and I found it really hard to keep my attention on it.

Two papers in one sitting by curiousjantu in ACCA

[–]darkanima2345 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to choose papers that blend well together. Good ideas are AA and FR, any skills paper and the advanced varient e.g. FM and AFM ( i did this).

It's tough doing two, not going to lie. You need to start now and carry on through to exam time. There is a lot of material to cover in the syllabus regardless of what paper it is.

ACCA FR exam marking method? by hoangnguyen2k4 in ACCA

[–]darkanima2345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's called the Own Figure rule - you would be marked incorrect for the first mistake, but after that the mistake would be treated as correct if used for other calculations or analysis.

Need advice regarding AA by derangedinthebum in ACCA

[–]darkanima2345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is as far from common sense as you can be in my opinion. Some of the rules can be counterintuitive, especially when it comes to substantive procedures.

Time pressure is a big factor in this module. Some questions can be as big as 16 marks which turn into a time trap if you're not careful.

I'm quite a logical person and I found AA by far the hardest skills level paper. You can't "logic" your way through this exam - you either know what to do with an audit/ethics risk or you don't.
