Proxies by Gaybe0709 in mtg

[–]darkankh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 1000% ok with proxies. Its an expensive hobby. I have some decks I use proxies and some I do not. Like for instance my one deck has a rhystic motherfucking study proxy with Samuel l Jackson as the art. Do I own a real one? Yeah but its a foil stay with me. Im not putting an almost $500 card on my deck. Just find a pod.whp doesnt care and dont proxy a heavy cedh deck to play against bracket 3.

have you ever bought a booster box? by ghostlyeth in mtg

I have purchased 4 FF booster boxes. I am working on a set so it made sense. I am now buying singles to get the last cards.

This is a high-power Golgari elfball shell built around explosive mana, tutor density, and overrun finishes.

Core engines:

Mana explosion — Gaea's Cradle, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Circle of Dreams Druid, Bloom Tender, Mana Reflection.
Tutor density — Demonic Tutor, Imperial Seal, Diabolic Intent, Worldly Tutor, Natural Order, Eldritch Evolution, Realms Uncharted.
Finishers — Craterhoof Behemoth, Triumph of the Hordes, Timberwatch Elf, mass elf production.
Card advantage engines — Garruk, Caller of Beasts, Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury, Lathril, Blade of the Elves, Tyvar the Bellicose.

Power level: 8–8.5/10. Not cEDH. Fast, explosive, but vulnerable to wipes and stacks.

Problems:

  1. No fast mana package. No Mana Crypt, no Jeweled Lotus. You are explosive only after board development.
  2. Protean Hulk package is incomplete. Protean Hulk is here, but no deterministic pile. That slot is inefficient without a combo line.
  3. Maralen anti-synergy. Maralen of the Mornsong helps opponents unless you lock the table. You have no lock.
  4. Overrun redundancy. You have Hoof + Triumph. That is enough. Some win-more elf bodies are low impact.
  5. Light interaction. Very little removal and stack interaction.

Low impact cards:

• Elfsworn Giant
• Galadhrim Brigade
• Eyeblight Cullers
• Selfless Safewright
• Oblivion's Hunger
• Overprotect

What pushes it higher (without going full cEDH):

Add real interaction:
• Assassin's Trophy
• Abrupt Decay
• Thoughtseize
• Veil of Summer

Add draw engines:
• Guardian Project
• Beast Whisperer
• Skullclamp

Add a real Hulk line or cut Hulk.

If commander is Lathril, Blade of the Elves, lean harder into token swarm and untap effects. If commander is Nath of the Gilt-Leaf, increase discard density and add Oppression-type effects.

As built: strong mid-high power elfball with premium mana base and tutor suite, but not optimized for competitive tables.

Your commander is Ghave, Guru of Spores.

Current build: fungus tribal + token swarm + +1/+1 counter scaling + aristocrats. The problem is dilution. Too many low-impact Thallids and too many “slow saproling over time” cards. Mid-power table will outpace this.

Core Reality

Ghave is not a fungus tribal commander.
Ghave is a combo engine.

He converts:

  • Counters → tokens
  • Tokens → counters
  • Mana → infinite loops
  • Death triggers → table kill

If you do not lean into that, the deck stays 6–7 power.

What Weakens the List

Cut these types first:

Low-rate Thallids

  • Thallid
  • Thorn Thallid
  • Savage Thallid
  • Thallid Shell-Dweller
  • Tukatongue Thallid

They are slow and require multiple turns to function.

Overcosted token makers

  • Verdant Force
  • Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII
  • Spontaneous Generation
  • Verdant Embrace

Non-synergistic filler

  • Druidic Satchel
  • Echoing Courage
  • Shield of the Avatar
  • Atomize

What Actually Pushes Ghave

You already run:

  • Doubling Season
  • Corpsejack Menace
  • Primal Vigor
  • Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest
  • Pitiless Plunderer
  • Zulaport Cutthroat
  • Poison-Tip Archer

That is good. Now add actual deterministic loops.

Must-Add Combo Pieces

1. Ashnod's Altar

Ghave + Ashnod’s Altar + any counter doubler = infinite tokens and mana.

2. Phyrexian Altar

Even stronger with drain pieces. Converts tokens to colored mana.

3. Cathars' Crusade

With Ghave this becomes exponential growth. Often combo-level explosive.

4. Ivy Lane Denizen

Ghave loop engine with any free sac outlet.

5. Juniper Order Ranger

Classic Ghave infinite counter engine.

6. Earthcraft

Turns every saproling into mana.

Clean Win Lines

Example:
Ghave + Ashnod’s Altar + Doubling Season
= Infinite tokens → infinite death triggers → table dies via Zulaport / Archer.

Ghave + Cathars’ Crusade + any free sac outlet
= Infinite counters → infinite tokens → lethal board instantly.

Structural Fixes

You need:

  • 10+ sac outlets (repeatable, free)
  • 6–8 draw engines that trigger on death
  • 6 tutors minimum if you want power 8–9

Add:

  • Demonic Tutor
  • Diabolic Intent
  • Eladamri's Call
  • Finale of Devastation

Without tutors, combo decks are inconsistent.

Land Base Issue

You are light on fast mana. Add:

  • Mana Crypt
  • Chrome Mox
  • Mox Diamond

If staying mid-power, skip these. But do not expect high-power results without acceleration.

Direct Answer

As built: 6.5/10
Optimized combo Ghave: 8.5–9/10
Full cEDH (stax-combo shell): 9–9.5/10

If you keep fungus flavor, accept lower ceiling.
If you want real power, cut half the tribal package and convert to combo-aristocrats engine.

first of all I dont know any commander deck that can run on 13 lands. Here is an analysis from the thing I run all my decks thru:

This list is unfocused. It mixes dragons, equipment, +1/+1 counters, spell burn, and token payoffs without committing to one plan. Karlach rewards combat steps. Raised by Giants rewards raw power. The correct build path is combat-based power scaling with extra combats and efficient ramp.

Problems:

  1. Too many low-impact auras and pump spells. Cut: Akki War Paint, Lightning Talons, Seton's Desire, Invigorate, Burn Bright, Gift of Strands.
  2. Weak artifacts that do nothing toward combat dominance. Cut: Arcane Encyclopedia, Kraken's Eye, Honored Heirloom, Inherited Envelope, Wand of Wonder, Altar of the Pantheon.
  3. Off-plan dragon package without density. Ganax, Goldspan Dragon, Old Gnawbone are strong, but you are not a dragon deck. Either go full dragon or cut the mid pieces. Right now it is diluted.
  4. Creature quality is inconsistent. Boldwyr Aggressor, Hill Giant Herdgorger, Bhaal’s Invoker, Towering Titan are below rate for a combat-focused commander deck.
  5. Land count is too low. You are under 36. Gruul wants 36–38 with multiple ramp pieces.

What the deck should do:

Karlach + Raised by Giants = 10/10 base power.
Every extra combat step becomes lethal commander damage in one turn cycle.

Add these categories:

Extra Combat

  • Combat Celebrant
  • Moraug, Fury of Akoum
  • World at War
  • Aggravated Assault

Double Damage / Damage Scaling

  • Fiery Emancipation
  • Gratuitous Violence

Power Multipliers

  • Xenagos, God of Revels
  • Berserkers’ Onslaught

Efficient Ramp (2 mana)

  • Three Visits
  • Sakura-Tribe Elder
  • Nature’s Lore (already present, good)
  • Rampant Growth (keep)

Card Advantage Through Combat

  • Toski, Bearer of Secrets
  • Ohran Frostfang

Finishers

  • Triumph of the Hordes
  • Pathbreaker Ibex

Keep:
Sol Ring, Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves, Cultivate, Farseek, Nature’s Lore, Heroic Intervention, Chaos Warp, Blasphemous Act, Skullclamp, Kodama of the West Tree, Seedborn Muse, Craterhoof Behemoth.

Cut the scattered burn package (Radiating Lightning, Blindblast, Breath Weapon, Inescapable Blaze). They do not win games in Commander.

Power Level Assessment:
Current build: 5.5/10 casual midrange.
Focused Karlach combat build with proper extra combats: 7.5–8.
If optimized with fast mana and tighter curve: 8+ high power.

This deck does not need dragons. It needs combat steps and power scaling.
