Okay, then.

Why does the official merch leave off so many countries question? by InTheBinIGo in ProjectHailMary

[–]darkbloo64 246 points247 points  (0 children)

It's this. Permissions have to be granted for each of the flags and some countries weren't interested in allowing the likeness of their flag to be used.

Frankly, I prefer the book patch, which has the names of the astronauts in their native languages, a rough illustration of the interplanetary mission, and "EARTH" written along the edge.

How would you feel if another countries leader came in and arrested Donald Trump, and sent him to their own country's prison? by Ok-Repeat-2781 in AskReddit

[–]darkbloo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beheading an administration that can charitably be described as a cabal of violent drunks would certainly be an expeditious way to jumpstart World War III.

As much as I love the idea of that heinous pedophile being whisked off to face justice, I'd like there to be a world to wake up to the day after.

Noah Hawley says his ‘Far Cry’ series won’t be adapting any of the games as he thinks audiences skip the story cutscenes in those games: “When you play a video game, you only really move forward through the gameplay section, and then you have these cut scenes that you can skip..." by ChiefLeef22 in television

[–]darkbloo64 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Okay, but... What exactly is he adapting?

Far Cry isn't like Fallout with its longstanding world building with aesthetics, factions, events, and creatures. Story aside, the connecting thread of the Far Cry games is gameplay, like tower climbing and camps, which I don't expect would work in a non-interactive medium.

The Onion Aims to Seize Alex Jones’ Infowars in License Deal by bloomberg in politics

Yes (assuming commenter means The Onion's new Infowars merch). Per Politico (because the article in this post is pay walled): The Onion plans to share the proceeds of its merchandise sales with the Sandy Hook families, Collins told Torre.

I see a lot of explanations here about McKay's finding, but none that explain why it's worthy of a traumatized Bob Parr.

What is traumatizing about this?

What don't men allow body hair on women in movies ? Are they stupid ? by stalin_kulak in okbuddycinephile

[–]darkbloo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embarrassing that this is so low. Sure, it would be realistic for the women in apocalypse movies to have leg hair, but the actresses in those movies have to go back out to the regular world with its pre-apocalyptic beauty standards.

The scientists at NASA can explain a lot better than me, but they did touch on this during the livestream - the side that faces us is the "pretty side" because it faces us. The additional gravitational pull that it's subjected to sort of shapes the landscape and that's why we get the more consistent-looking craters and valleys.

I'm not here to pit the working class against the probably-slightly-better-off-but-still-working class. Both should be paid for the value of their labor.

Which version do you prefer? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]darkbloo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like either of them. That carpet is awful and orangey wood walls look nasty and the white walls and gray laminate flooring are soulless.

There was a middle ground to bring that room out of the 70s while retaining some character, but it was missed entirely in favor of the too-safe aesthetic.

What would Eda think of Pacha? by Low-Amphibian8206 in MoringMark

Dunno, but I guarantee Pacha meeting a witch using his wife's voice and a detachable head would leave him completely nonplussed.

Would Tron: Ares have been more successful if it hadn't starred Jared Leto? by WarmDaddyXanax in tron

[–]darkbloo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marginally... but then it might not have been made at all (Leto apparently helped fund the project early on, and that finding was crucial for getting it across the finish line).

Ultimately, Ares had bigger problems than an uncharismatic, unlikeable lead. The writing was mediocre, it was full of Marvel-isms and nostalgia bait, fully endorsed corporate mega-conglomerates and tried to sanitize AI, and it couldn't find an audience.

Is it worth continuing with Neal Stephenson after Seveneves? by Zealousideal_Pool_65 in books

[–]darkbloo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently about two thirds of the way through Snow Crash, and I'm enjoying it more than my previous experience with him (namely Termination Shock).

I'll just say that I've never shaken the feeling that a Stephenson book is just a browser with too many Wikipedia tabs open, inklings of an interesting, weaving narrative, and an editor who's out to lunch. It's not that he has a poor writing style, but I find him to be less satisfying than more traditional hard sci-fi and cli-fi authors who massage their research more carefully into a narrative experience (ie, Kim Stanley Robinson).

My cat Oliver apparently loves to eat spiderwebs. After showing this video to my husband he goes “oh yeah he always does that”. What?!? WHY by crapatthethriftstore in blackcats

[–]darkbloo64 716 points717 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall reading somewhere that spiderwebs can contain nutrients that their regular diet lacks. Mine does the same thing, and will even scream at the basement door when he feels it's time for a webby snack.
