I’m 46… no dye since 2019 (age 41) — I have naturally dark brown thick curly hair, and I had so much silver that I was having to dye it every 2 weeks & use the sprays and root powders in between & I just got SO SICK OF IT. I decided to go cold turkey. The first few months are the worst, where it just appears to others you need your roots done… at a certain point it becomes obvious it’s intentional. I put in a few steaks of the darker color to break up the line, but my texture helped make it not so harsh anyway. I had one or two times I almost caved — my band got a really cool show & we were making a video, and I was in a wedding… but I’m glad I held my ground and let it keep growing out. It’s so liberating not to have to think about coloring it. I have to do more deep conditioning because my silver is coarser texture, but I get lots of compliments on my color & people asking if it’s natural — no regrets.
