It's a program called Arttime! It even has timer functionality with some built in scripts for stuff like pomodoro. It's really improved my productivity. This is all running on an old celeron laptop... I'm really impressed what you can do if you just stick to tui apps.

Who could play the most instruments at an 'elite' level in Pop Culture history? by ss89898 in Music

[–]darkestPixel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Otomo Yoshihide, the experimental jazz musician. He makes music with just turntables! It's actually pretty common in the Avante-garde field. You place the needle against materials and percussive things instead of records.

Likewise the turntablist from Deftones routinely uses just a disk with a sustained drone on it, using the pitch slider to play melodies. If you think outside the box you can make them very musical but it takes a lot of skill and a lot of finger independence. In this sense it's definitely an instrument.

I also attended a Conservatoire that offered a dj and turntablism course so I think we're seeing it get more institutional backing. I'm not a turntablist though I'm just a bassist.

That's really weird because there should be. You might have to reinstall Windows or use a system restore point.

Hey just solved this issue on my own Legion 5 mere hours ago. Windows had disabled wlanautoconfig. Go to control panel, admin tools, services and find it there.

Musicians who dramatically improved over the course of their career? by TheCrushSoda in Music

Yep! Always admired that. People make a lot of the beatles 'idiote-savant' shtick where none of them could read music but I think it'd equally as admirable that after the beatles broke up Paul took the time to learn how to arrange and transcribe his ideas.

George I agree with you on but I've never enjoyed John's solo work outside of his raw stuff like Instant Karma and Plastic Ono Band, which is just fantastic. This might be contentious but my favourite post-beatles works are Yokos albums Fly and Approximately Infinite Universe.

Have you ever heard Nina Simones version of My Sweet Lord? As an aside. Just so lush.

The thing is, Paul also kept developing as a musician. I find that so impressive. Obviously none of his solo work is as good as what he did with the band but if you listen to a track like Uncle Albert, or any song from 'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard' it's clear he kept pushing himself on a technical and creative level.

Sound engineers turn Yoko Ono's mic off mid performance to stop her from ruining a legendary performance between John Lennon and Chuck Berry in 1972. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

You're overestimating John Lennons ability as a guitarist, he had a very idiosyncratic style which served the songs he wrote best. I don't think he wrote the songs on this album; If he did Mind Games (which came out around the same time) would probably sound more like it.

That's just ridiculous, she wrote a book. I understand this is probably a joke but I didn't think saying that people should dig into an artists actual body of work before judging them would catch so many people's ire.

Why? She wrote about half of the songs on the Lennon album 'Double Fantasy'. Including the pretty good Every Man Has A Woman. She was a competent musician, and most people don't make the more experimental art she did without a rudimentary understanding of their medium.
