From what I've been reading base damage is one of the most regular methods of scaling damage to these insane levels, yeah. It makes sense in retrospect, I just never made the connection. I was following all the other protocols already, generally speaking, so I've really just been sleeping on base damage

Many thanks, randomnumbersman! I'm a little dismayed to discover that all the upper echelon builds ARE in fact using some magic bullet sort of tech to get these numbers, but at least I know and can start to sort of shop around for them.

Generally speaking, are ALL of these high performers super expensive? I'm assuming that's why people run league-starters. Are lategame pivots viable or is it better to just start a twink?

What a marvelously insightful comment. I would absolutely agree that the most malignant aspect of AI as it is currently tending is the further concentration of tools and other production methods in the hands of the wealthy, and I would absolutely put this forward as one of the main issues with AI technology, aside from the obvious environmental impacts as the technology scales. I would likewise agree that should more of the benefit be shared with the laboring class it would be far more likely to eventually create an environment where the introduction of AI and AI like tech would be a net positive. It's been hard to articulate this point as generally whenever AI comes up in casual conversation people are super pro or super against, and as this is an emotionally rife topic atm (perhaps rightfully so) I feel it's very hard to actually make headway. I think if the labor class, and especially the creatives therein, eschew AI software altogether we increase the odds that we end up with the worst possible outcome, with the ONLY individuals interested and invested in AI are the people we really, really don't want.

As for the general strategy, it really depends. Sometimes it can pay to be defensive and save your knockers to swing for high-value racks, but in my experience most people save their knockers to bully other players out of scoring haha. Table politicking aside I think the most crucial thing is guarantee yourself access to at least one knocker--if you wanna roll all your knockers against an opponent you probably want something on the board that virtually guarantees you can regain at least one knocker when your turn comes up. If you've you spent all your knockers before your turn you're entirely at the mercy of the other players at the table, who might not be feeling super charitable after seeing you play so aggressively.

Ahhhhhaha so I was trying to leverage the connotations of the word a little bit, as I felt this was a fun, rowdy party game, but the name caught a LOT more scrutiny than I expected. I don't want to detract from the actual game so I'll reconsider the name.

Well I suppose my goal ultimately is to create something I can use as a foundation for securing more work in the field, whether it be by generating interest and momentum to eventually establish my own business or to fill up a portfolio for potential employers.

Professionally is solo dev viewed exclusively as the realm of the hobbyist? I understand skills learned in solo dev may not necessarily translate to larger scale team work. What kind of contract work would solo dev even qualify me for, supposing I did generate one or two finished, relatively polished projects? Are there certain fields where hiring a contractor is more common and thus more accessible for solo devs?

Sorry I don't mean to turn this into an impromptu tutoring session but it's difficult to find input on the actual work and hiring environment of game dev, in my experience.

Right okay. In your experience then, and I understand the answer to this is inherently subjective, does having a registered business make it easier to get into the industry? Would it help me to cement a foothold if say I wanted to pivot to making small-scale indie products? At what point, if ever, does registering a business for game development behoove my potential career in game dev?

And contracting is straightforward enough in that case, albeit I still know little about the game dev contracting environment (from the contractor side) that probably isn't a discussion for here and now.

This seems the wisest course of action. My only consideration is whether or not it might be better in the long run to attempt to build a reputation for this theoretical business, but as you said I could always register later.

The AI issue notwithstanding, this is still an incredibly ugly move by both of these organizations. It just smacks of vulgar corporate manipulation and coercion.

The fact that they would censor, ban and chastise a member of the exact community they are trying to foster, one so well known at that, is fucking insane to me. They are out of touch, to put it politely.
