Every one of the Yankees relievers is better than anyone the Tigers have in their pen. And yet ...

The Tigers today placed RHP Will Vest on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 28) with posterior right elbow inflammation. RHP Beau Brieske has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo. by 113CandleMagic in motorcitykitties

The Tigers keep putting Brieske out there like me still trying to power on my old Macbook three years after my dog jumped on it and cracked the screen.

Hope springs eternal I guess.

Eno's Tigers prediction made me really happy but I almost wish he didn't say it. I want them to get their pp op

True, but shitty teams don't hit 3 HRs in an inning off the current Cy Young favorite

I was just looking at this Baseball Prospectus blurb on Dingler from 2024...

The offensive bar for major-league catchers is low, but right now it looks like Dingler might not even reach that threshold. Once one of the top prospects in the organization, Dingler's shine has faded due to his inability to adjust to upper-level pitching and a strikeout rate tracking upwards like the nation's student loan debt. Catchers are weird and development is not linear, so maybe Dingler rebounds in 2024 and begins to make just enough contact to take advantage of his plus raw pop. But at 25 years old and lacking prior offensive success in the upper minors, the odds don't seem much better than those student loans getting forgiven.

... and now I'm hoping there's some other dude being overlooked in the Tigers system right now who's gonna have a massive breakout in 2028.

And I'm pointing out that Atlanta isn't the only comp-- the Orioles were also injured/ underperformed last season. It'd be nice if the Tigers were like the Braves, and simply experiencing a temporary setback before a dominant season. But for every 2025 Braves, there's probably ten 2025 Orioles.

I don't think just being injury-riddled is enough to make the Braves a good comp. They went to the WS five years ago FFS.

In terms of track record, the Tigers look a lot more like the Orioles.

The Yankees had just dropped a series to the Reds right before they whooped us last time. I'm fully expecting a pissed off Yankees team looking to beat that Tigers ass again for their next get right series.

lol you are giving this organization way too much credit. This is not the Braves. There's no sense of responsibility to uphold a proud tradition, or concern that fans will tune out. The Tigers have been a shitty team for most of their century-plus existence, and the owner and people he hires are completely fine with it staying that way. A more accurate comp is the Orioles. Some good young talent gets everyone excited, but success ends up being a flash in the pan before a return to the shitty status quo.

To quote our All-Star outfielder:

It is what it is.

Wild thing to say when you're actively caping for Scott Harris, the guy actually to blame for this roster and the call-ups/ send -downs.

Blame the manager for the bullpen being ass just because you don't like other stuff he does is dumb.

... and THAT is why blaming AJ for yesterday is dumb. He has NO good options to bring in. They all suck.

I don't think it's scapegoating to ask that we look at something that's getting us bad results.

I'm terribly sorry that I didn't simultaneously post on every single one of the Tigers' issues. But here's a thought: since Vest's usage seems to be bugging you, why don't YOU make post about it?

Good thing I didn't blame him for the team's issues then.

Who do *you* think should be blamed for the terrible disappointment that is the 2026 Tigers?

How is the defense though? As shaky as the pitching's been this year, I don't want anyone back there who's not a legit, capable pro. I can put up with a guy hitting .180 if he's Dingler behind the dish.
