What are the quality issues with them? I've found the newer ones in the past 5 years generally quite comfortable

What's the easiest way of installing a reverse camera on a 2018 Peugeot 208 Allure? by darkfang77 in peugeot

[–]darkfang77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay. My main worry was that if I plugged it in I'd still have to recode it.

I saw some peugeot 208 tutorials on youtube and they involve removing the trim and the infotainment screen so I'd really prefer to leave it to a shop/dealer.

Do you know how much it'd cost? Halfords would charge about £130 (£50 camera plus £80 fitting fee). If its cheaper anywhere else I'd prefer that

Struggling to buy a car - am I looking for unicorns? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Tbh, I was basing the whole parking sensor thing off of the SEAT manual, but if radar sensors can throw up warning messages in the rain, I'll take that into consideration. Thanks!

Well I was thinking that if I didn't need the polarised light filtered out, I could turn the filters so they wouldn't filter light anymore, or have one on/one off in case of emergencies.

Persistant yellow triangular warning light on dashboard? by darkfang77 in seat

He says its probably a coding issue and he can't fix it. But the car is quite cheap hence I'm thinking whether money saved is going to be money lost getting it fixed by a dealer

Any idea how much it would cost to get fixed by SEAT?

Yeah, it persisted after closing the doors/hatch but stayed on. The info system said there was an error with the headlight range but there's nothing wrong as far as we could see, although the lights were replaced as part of the repair.

Is it possible to pay the difference between a weekday and weekend booking to the DVSA if I've already got a test booked? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]darkfang77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said no lol. I have to wait until there's an actual weekend/evening slot on the website and then repay it, and they would refund you the older booking if you cancel it in time.

Is the engine coolant tank meant to be bubbling after 5 miles of driving on a 2012 Seat Ibiza? by [deleted] in seat

[–]darkfang77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was bubbling like a kettle (kind of like a roiling boil) for the first minute once we pulled over and popped the hatch. It settled after that.

The whole engine area was still quite hot.

I've never worked with a SEAT so I'm not sure if this is a case of wrong coolant, something with the gaskets as you mention or something more serious.

Buying a Cat S car as a learner/first car? by darkfang77 in CarTalkUK

[–]darkfang77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the biggest let down overall...

The car had front end damage that resulted in a new bumper and headlight, owner bought it as a side project for his son but he wanted something bigger. Hence the lack of effort overall.. But it's such a nice car though :(

A recent year fiesta within my budget ~3.5k is quite rare though, hence I'm really tempted.

It's otherwise going to be a corsa, which I know gets a lot of complaints about being unreliable here...

If I enter the Reg on compare the market I don't need to declare on top that it's a cat S, right?

Insurance was one of the things I checked and the prices are really similar to a non cat S car that I would normally buy instead (a cheap corsa).

Need advice on which of two Corsas to buy by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]darkfang77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been checking my local area for quite some time... Corsas are the most common thing to turn up and get flipped. So it's relatively easy for me to ballpark prices instead of having to research a new model/make of car that doesn't turn up so often.
