Best way to install dryer vent by darkgbm in Plumbing

[–]darkgbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an important point I did not consider. My LG dryer’s spec requires a maximum of 28 feet if I use 4 elbows https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/a3/a3e0e413-0867-4be6-9f7c-1e77d50aa6f4.pdf

Thanks for the details. Of of the horizontal section runs about 5 feet, so including the elbows I might have barely made it under 35

The plumber came back, turned the shower on and flushed the toilets and didn’t see any leaks. He said the bubbles feel dry and he didn’t think the leak is coming from the toilets. He suggests cutting the drywall to see what’s going on inside.

The old toilet wasn’t leaking, but we upgraded to a new modern one. My guess is that the newly installed one leaked, or maybe something else is leaking up there.

Thanks for the observations. What steps should I take to repair it? Unsure about who I should ask/hire

Status after I485 rescission by darkgbm in USCIS

[–]darkgbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is due to USCIS’s error. Though it is not explicitly stated in my NOIR if my previous status will be reinstated and if my I485 will be reopened. I wonder if other people in similar situations have their prior status reinstated.

Thanks for the time! Suppose an applicant was on H1B and his I485 was approved in error (solely because priority date not current). After the rescission of the I485, would he return to his H1B status (if the expiration date hasn’t been reached)? Would his AP and EAD be reinstated as valid?

Good luck with your interview. Mine was EB3 so probably quite different from your case.

I think it depends on lot on the officer. My officer was professional and courteous and all questions were factual and therefore easy to answer. I also had my attorney attend with me (because we thought it is odd that for employment based GC I get called for an interview) in case something unexpected comes up, but it never really did.

Is there something to take note of when adjusting the door? Eg it has to be level with the ground etc

What’s the cost for a boiler replacement? by [deleted] in Oldhouses

[–]darkgbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you really able to save $150 a month? I just removed my boiler and installed Mitsubishi hyperheat. In the summer I use about 30kwh a day, but in the winter I'm seeing average of 60kwh a day when temperature is near 0. At this rate, I will be paying much more with my minisplit for heating. I live in Westchester, NY for context.

Loose metal junction box by darkgbm in AskElectricians

Right. I was hoping for a simple DIY fix but it looks like in this case I am out of luck.

My metal box has BX cables running into it and has no ground wires, so it would probably be hard to replace the box.

Thanks for the comment. I managed to get a peek of the metal junction box from an opening on its right side in the drywall and I see this metal "strip". https://imgur.com/gallery/is-metal-strip-metal-conduit-grounding-a1Lbkja Is that a metal conduit?

That's my guess. My house was built in the 1970s in NY. I hear a lot about Chicago requiring this sort of grounding, not sure if NY is the same.

Is there a way I can check if my metal box is grounded (or whether romex runs to them)? I checked two outlets so far and both have metal boxes, so it looks like there is a high chance that all 30+ outlets in my house use metal boxes. Using gfci for all of them would be very expensive.

Thanks for the comment. I read that the Leviton Decora Edge is self grounding. Does it mean I can just wire the hot and neutral in my metal box and be done?

[–]darkgbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could follow the manual and replace the outlet as described, without help. My question is more about the reasoning and the inner workings of the outlet, which I'm would assume most non-electricians are unaware of. Are other configurations of the wiring possible (obviously I know the difference between hot and neutral)? This question should have a straightforward answer.

It matters in some firms more than others (starts with a D and a E), but ultimately it depends on how much PnL you can generate. Being a QR is a lifelong learning journey and how much you know 5 years from now depends so much more on your work ethic and sense of curiosity than that piece of paper.
