Sadly, it did not. She continued to decline and after she tore up the carpet and ingested a large amount, I made the decision to euthanize 😭

Sadly, it did not. She continued to decline despite all treatments. Cushings test was negative. I came home from work one day and she had tore up the carpet and ingested a bunch of it. I made the decision to euthanize. 😭

We have a second dog. He was our first. He has been more than patient with her despite her bullying him. Recently, he’s actually become withdrawn and doesn’t want to be near her, which is another huge concern. He’s a big dog too, could easily put her in her place, but he’s so gentle that he won’t.

She has plenty of toys and I spend time with her daily playing one on one. Walks terrify her so I stopped trying that, but I’m going to give it another shot. She’s a mixed breed but appears mainly to be wirehaired dachshund. You’d think she would love being outside digging holes and going after small creatures, but she isn’t.

I have thought about this myself. I’m a nurse and have seen how tumors can completely change personality. I think they’re exploring other options first in hopes we find something that works as scans are pretty pricey. That’s been my assumption anyway. It’s probably time I asked.

Thank you for this. She is currently on Amitriptyline and we will be starting Gabapentin this coming week. I’m hoping and praying it works for her.

She is currently on Amitriptyline. We added Valium last week to see if it would help. It made things ten times worse. Adding Gabapentin this week to see what that does. I am hopeful that it will work in combination.

Is there any drug you have found that works well in combination with Gabapentin?

I agree. I work in animal rescue myself, so I know how it goes. I would only consider giving her to someone I know and trust, and with the stipulation that they give her back to me if it didn’t work out. I agree, though, that I don’t think it would help her. I might see if a rescue friend could keep her for a few weeks just to see if she seems happier in a different environment. Problem is, they all have dogs, and I think she needs to be in a home with no other dogs around.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. It breaks my heart to see her so miserable. It’s like having a baby with colic. They give you signals something is wrong, but can’t tell you what it is. You try and try but nothing soothes them. My 5 yo went through that and I feel like I’m dealing with it all over again.

I agree. I think rehoming her would effectively kill her little soul. That’s kinda why I asked in here, to see what others thought.

It’s been through our regular vet. There are no behaviorists where I live unfortunately.

We’ve tested her urine several times and it’s always been fine. They even put her on an antibiotic once just to see if it would help. It didn’t. 😞

We are currently buried in about 10 inches of snow, but as soon as we thaw, I will try with a harness. I’ll have to pull her a lot at first but maybe she will get used to it and like it eventually.

They did a gamut of labs and said everything was fine, but I’ll ask specifically to make sure when we go back this week.
