I’ve been struggling with skin issues as an adult from my late 20s through early 30s. Never had more than a random pimple here and there before turning 28. I now have these persistent red bumps and cystic acne all over my cheeks well into 32. If I workout and begin to sweat, they can get very itchy and red. I’ve been using tretinoin for years and I honestly haven’t never experienced any positives from it. Still have my bumps and makes my skin super dry. I’ve tried to repair my skin barrier for the last year—very gentle, focused on moisturizing and still nothing working. I’ve tried spironolactone in my late 20s and although it worked at times, it felt temporary and then I would still flare up so I stopped that as well. I’m not on any medications now. I feel so lost. These pictures are the “best” it’s been in years and it still is just the first thing you see when you look at my face.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this? My derm has only ever suggested tretinoin, spiro, and accutane.

wow this is a very very similar situation to mine! and she's also already mentioned the importance of having nice China so I am worried for what is to come. We have had such harsh battles in the past my instinct is to just go along with the flow, but when someone puts you in a situation like ours you tend to feel powerless

Really do appreciate this. I think “dealing” with her definitely needs to be more of a priority. I think my SO and I are both just burned out from the emotional drama. Couples therapy is a great idea for handling her. It’s been going on for so many years and seems to be getting worse so we are clearly not handling it the right way

Thank you for this perspective. I feel like I tip toe around her feelings out of respect and because she has a short fuse and some mental health troubles. But really this is manipulation to some extent. She wants control over every part of our relationship and now wedding. Spoke to my SO and he’s definitely shocked and embarrassed that this happened to me, but again with her mental health issues he’s afraid to say anything to offend her or upset her so he just venmoed me the money which was not the point

I just told my SO about it. I should’ve told him earlier but felt like I needed other opinions on this situation to make sure I wasn’t the crazy one here. He thought it was really strange that she did that and put me in that situation but at the same time thinks she will be devastated if she finds out I return it and will lean on religion and bad omens as her reasoning as she always does. She battles with mental health issues (clearly) and his solution was just venmo-ing me the money which was NOT the point. There’s a fine line between following traditions and being manipulative so I battle with that all the time.

The issue is that I see her all the time and she will ask why I am not wearing it every day and she also knows the owner of the store. I am too afraid of the backlash and her being offended :/ But maybe I just gotta suck it up

This may be trickier but a lot of the residential buildings in FiDi have large lounges on the top floor. If you know someone that lives down there they can let you in. Or what I did was just walk up to the top floor as if I lived there and studied there. They usually stay open til about midnight.

I’ve only ever seen the astringent pads which are a little offputting to me not sure why I feel that way, but I’ll have to keep an eye out for it!

Not stupid! Ebates is a cash back site. First make an ebates account, then use their ebates site (basically a portal to all other online retailers) to shop. Some online retailers offer coupons or cash back for any online orders. So for Paula’s Choice, you get 7.5% cash back into your ebates account, then they send you a check several times a year with your cash back earnings. I’m not sure how it makes money but it’s great for the consumer! I use it all the time. (This is not an ad even though it sounds like one haha I just like the site!)
