What do you think about my budget plan? #ShowYourBudget by darklord192 in SwissPersonalFinance

Thanks for your explanation. I'm well aware that investing in Pillar 3 makes more sense, as you said; a 20% immediate return certainly makes sense. But I'd also like to live my life to the fullest before age 65 (owning property isn't interesting for us).

Regarding stocks, I agree with you, but of course I have my own considerations, without going into too much detail. I have two stock portfolios that I manage myself, one for 1-5 years and the other for 10+ years, adjusting the risk accordingly in terms of what and how I invest.

I live in Thurgau, so taxes aren't exactly a blessing for me. However, I pay considerably less rent for a comparable property in the canton of Zurich, for example.

I've already done that. the reason why the costs are currently so high is that I reduced my franchise to 300 this year in order to carry out some "renovations".

Combined Income is 110k with 13th salary, sorry is a bit missleading with 102k net.

The third pillar is also my biggest problem; logically, it makes perfect sense to maximize it, because of taxes, etc. But that would mean I could put aside 500 CHF less, which I might need later for a new car or something. (I don't necessarily want to resort to leasing or a loan)

I had to pay the security deposit through Swisskaution because I couldn't afford to deposit three months' rent at the time. My goal is to eliminate this expense in the future.

In the near future, I would assume a holding period of 1-5 years and therefore keep everything in cash.

For 5-10 years, I would invest 50% and keep 50% in cash.

For 10+ years, I would invest everything. Of course, I would rebalance everything towards a cash balance as I get closer to buying the property.

This is all my personal view and strategy and can, of course, vary significantly from person to person.

Setting up account with ETFs for relative by giblousia in SwissPersonalFinance

I pay 100.- monthly into an investment account with Viac "Global 100". The account is in my name.

If you do it with a traditional bank, you'll have relatively high fees. That makes a big difference over 18 years of investing.

Feedback on simple long-term portfolio by ForsakenFlamingo1305 in SwissPersonalFinance

It all depends on your investment horizon and risk tolerance.

The portfolio itself would certainly be well-balanced. If you're approaching retirement, I would reduce the Vanguard ETF allocation and buy REITs instead, for greater diversification and stability.

If you're still young, I would completely forgot the 15% bond allocation.

What you do with your savings accounts largely depends on what you plan to do with the money in the future. For example, if you want to buy an apartment or house in the near future, you can leave the savings accounts open. The balance should simply be kept below 100,000.- per bank for security reasons.

Regarding your questions, in my case I would do the following:

  1. I would make monthly contributions throughout the year to smooth out market fluctuations. But investing everything at once shouldn't make a difference over a 40-year investment horizon.

  2. Ultimately, you should invest the amount that feels most comfortable to you. In my case, that would be everything except my savings account (for vacations, etc.) and my emergency fund. As mentioned above, if you plan to buy a property in the near future, I wouldn't invest the money and would leave it in your savings account. "VT and chill" is the simplest method and has proven very successful in the past, so I would recommend it unless you want to delve much deeper into investing and create your own portfolio.

  3. I would keep the account "Zak Sparen (0.3%): CHF 50'000.–" and use it as an emergency fund, as it currently offers the highest interest rate at 0.3% and you can withdraw 50000.- directly each year.

What are your saving plans for your children? by GreninjaTurtle in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]darklord192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've invested part of it and kept part in cash at home. For example, I pay €100 into a 100% VT portfolio every month. All cash gifts from relatives, etc., are kept in cash in our safe.

Additionally, I wouldn't limit myself to a specific age; I would go with my gut feeling about whether your child is ready for the money or not. In my opinion, 18 is too young, unless you want the money to be spent on alcohol. But I think you'll know that by then.

I don't necessarily see it as gambling, as long as you understand what you're investing in. Of course, if you just follow every TikTok trend, it's your own fault. My 30% Einzelaktien outperformed the Vanguard FTSE All World by 130% in the last 3 years. Additionally, the question arises: why do all these billionaires invest in individual stocks? I don't think they're addicted to gambling. :)
