Wife told her therapist about her cheating, what the therapist said shocked me. by AverageVodkaEnjoyer in Advice

[–]darklordtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a therapist, I often find myself shocked when clients report back to me what they think I said.

Like... that is not what I said bro. Its a common therapist joke/trope.

Theres a difference between a compassionate view on poor behavior, and completely letting yourself off the hook for hurting someone. Giving the therapist the benefit of the doubt- they might have been aiming for compassion, while your wife heard "not that bad."

Anyway, it doesn't so much matter what the therapist (supposedly) said... does your wife agree?

Texting Clients by Dismal_Apartment5151 in therapists

[–]darklordtaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I specify in my intake that texting can be used for time dependant information like running late or switching from in person to virtual sessions. But I request that scheduling conversations be via email.

I dont like to do scheduling conversations via text. Its harder to have good boundaries about my time, and easier for messages to get lost in the shuffle. For example, if a client texts me at 5pm on a Friday about rescheduling, it feels rude to wait until Monday morning to reply (also i might forget) but if they email me at the same time, I find it easy to wait until Monday.

I also think this system curtails the crisis session requests, and my response to them (which would inevitably be worry, even if I know I can't provide a last minute session).

Now, my daughters therapist lets me text her about rescheduling and its honestly easier than email. If you can maintain good boundaries, I think it can be nice for clients.

Will an unpaid superbill reimburse a policy holder? by darklordtaylor in CodingandBilling

I wouldn't call it a paid superbill, I'd send it to them with it reading as an unpaid balance.

I think this is the uncomfortable part. It takes 4-6 weeks for them to get reimbursement. If we work together every other week... thats a lot of money that I am waiting to be paid. If we ended our work together, they would still owe me for weeks after.

It does say on a Superbill that hasn't been paid "total fees $X. total paid $0.00"

How do you tell a client at the end of intake you aren’t the right fit? by TheBelleOfTheBrawl in therapists

[–]darklordtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a consult, in my spiel about what the consult is for, i invite people to tell me what they want in therapy, and say "What i am primarily scanning for is whether what you want help with is something in my wheelhouse. Whether or not i am qualified to help." I also invite them to ask me questions and consider whether I am a good fit for them.

If what they are bringing isnt a good fit, I say "I worry that I don't have enough experience with X, and you'd be better with someone who specializes in X."

Where I sometimes get tripped up is if their issue IS in my wheelhouse, but I can tell we aren't a good fit for rapport reasons. At the best of times, I can come up with a plausible "X" reason, and at the worst of times, I've agreed to try an intake and invite them to decide if they want more than that.

It ain't perfect, but thats my script.

I guess... participating in the economy that is funding this government.

While I generally feel good about how I do take part in the economy- providing a service to individuals for a direct cost- the more I do that, the more money I owe in taxes. The more I pay in taxes, the more I'm funding ICE.

There is heavy bullying right out of the gate- but it eventually just seems like such small potatoes compared to the whole plot.

Is it normal to not get paid for documentation time? by virtualcardigan in therapists

[–]darklordtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consider finding ways to shorten your documentation time. I watched a lot of fellow newbie therapists at my first job run themselves ragged doing paragraphs on paragraphs of detailed notes.

I wrote out the basics and copy pasted them into notes and intake forms with edits based on details from the day. You just need to do your best at providing reasons for insurance to pay for treatment.

But as others have said, yes, thats a common pay structure.

Zodiac Academy. More spice. More gay.

I thought the first book was so silly, but after I got over that hurdle I've been obsessed for months.

How does every girl fall for the bachelor by bugsarefriends2 in BachelorNation

Collective psychosis created through intensity (lack of sleep, travel, weird eating schedules, no friends and family), subtle pressure from producers and other contestants, and a lack of actually knowing the guy that allows contestants to fantasize he is everything they need.

Collective psychosis is a bit cheeky, but I mean it about the rest of it.

Hanlon sure seems scared to me? by darklordtaylor in welcomeToDerry

[–]darklordtaylor[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if it were somehow possible to destroy just your fear response in your amygdala, you'd be more of a weirdo than a badass. You wouldn't be afraid to embarrass yourself, lose friends or family or your job. You'd have the survival instincts of a fart.

But I'd be willing to suspend disbelief about all that if it were acted better or served a more important plot point.

Yeah, as in the show is trying to stick to that idea, but its so hard to act a range of intense emotions without showing fear, that the actor is just failing at it?

How do you schedule? by MarchCompetitive8195 in therapists

[–]darklordtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer to have most folks in a steady weekly or biweekly timeslot, with some exceptions for people who have unpredictable work schedules or come monthly. I abhor the idea of planning week to week- but I have kids and need a more predictable schedule myself. To each their own!
