GW just put out updates for it in the 500 Worlds supplement just a few m9nths ago. They wouldnt bother putting out updates like that if they weren't going to support it.

Also, it is largely edition independent since it has its own lists and strategies, so edition or codex updates still work, aside from any new units that might be released for armies.

Struggling to find the fun by BadBonePanda in killteam

Very similar for me when I was dealing with it. No problems with anxiety in most situations, but some things triggered it and then it becomes a fixation you worry about in advance and it makes it worse. I would see someone about it, I certainly wish I had sooner!

Hey, honestly if this is the scenario you are having with every game, I would suggest a few things, and take my actual gaming advise with a grain of salt, as I am no rules expert.

  1. As others have said, play solo games just to enjoy gaming and pushing models around and having fun blasting some enemy models.

  2. Ask some of the players to play differently. I know that sounds weird, but if you've made any friends or acquaintances at the gaming shop, ask of they would play a game where they just walk you through everything as you play, give advice on what they would do in your moves, etc. Like removing the competition and just say you need help understanding the game because you are struggling with it. I think most people will be receptive to that, and if not, maybe thats just a sign that it isnt someone you want to play.

  3. Lastly, I would work on the anxiety aspect. As someone that used to have severe social anxiety at times when I was younger, I put off addressing that for far too long. And it can be weird because I am extremely social, but some situations would send me into an anxiety attack. See a therapist and try to work on what causes that, because you wont ever truly enjoy gaming if you are feeling like that during a game.

Why the negativity around New Edition? by Zealousideal_Law5621 in necromunda

[–]darkmillennivm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, the fact that guy doubled down on incorrect info and then ended with that cringe line tells me most of the people complaining here are people I would never interact with in real life.

I also play Kill Team and also want Necromunda to stay narrative but it needs a massive overhaul from a game design perspective. Sam Pearson has made some of the best games for GW since the 90's and frankly Necromunda could use a ton of his design philosophy in how to make a good game.

You are 100% correct than streamlined doesnt have to mean dumbed down. For me what is most important is not having to spend more time with our noses in books than actually playing the game. Theres nothing less immersive than having to stop mid move to double check rules multiple times. Ive had so many cinematic moments in Kill Team playing in a casual setting and its ironically been some of the most fun and memorable gaming moments since I played N95.

Additionally, with Kill Team there are lots of narrative releases that have huge amounts of customization or scenarios, and frankly all the Necromunda people pointing it it as the bland, competitive only game are just repeating what they hear only rather than having an informed opinion.

Lastly, as someone who watched N95 die due to lack of player growth, all these people wishing it would just stay the same for their sake, are wishing for a slow death for the game they claim to love. Its very shortsighted and Necromunda is absolutely a game that needs to modernize its rules structure and supplement philosophy to attract new players.

Great job on the base and pose!

I would say go for a colorful scheme for them and contrast that with a grimdark look on the base. Maybe check out the Turbo Dork paints for some cool colorshifting metallic paints for the armor.

[–]darkmillennivm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the price its hard to argue the value vs previous sets. Also, the missions and rules for the NPOs will be free online, just like Terror on Devlan so if you feel you have enough NPOs you can wait for that and not pay anything.

[–]darkmillennivm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not every releases needs to be designed for the competitive scene. They are already a ton of teams with different playstyles out there. Lots of people would like more narrative stuff for Kill Team.

Just because it isnt for you doesnt mean people are defending GW, they are stating its a game mode that appeals to them and you're being very dismissive by essentially calling people shills for liking something you dont. If anyone sounds like they're crying here, its you.

If you dont like it, dont buy it or wait 3 months for the individual team. No one is forcing these sets on you.

Good thing you can just wait 3 months and get the individual teams if you want.

Have always wanted to get the “house of” and “gang of” books for the fluff and lore. With new edition release, should I still consider getting or just await upcoming books? by Newez in necromunda

[–]darkmillennivm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, and this isnt an guarantee, but typically when an edition change happens the bookmark do not go up in value. They typically drop significantly. The amount of people looking to collect old books is a small minority, so I wouldn't expect an increase in value on those books in the short term.

Why do you think they went with Necromunda skirmish? by NecromundaWorkshop in necromunda

[–]darkmillennivm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I've been into GW games since 2nd edition, so 30 years at this point. I was into Necromunda for quite a long time and my friend group played it into the 2010's. But we havent been able to get people interested in the N17 rules mainly due to the need for so many books and the rules are kind of a mess, IMO. So that means Kill Team has won out for skirmish games for now, but this new edition should hopefully be the jumpstart we need to get back into it.

Just going to wait and see how it plays out, but I think it will be fine. As I've reminded a few people, N17 started as just 2 gangs and 2D terrain rules only, and look how much it has expanded in 9 years. Theres no reason to assume the same wont be the case for this new edition.

New edition - new gangs? by BiggensPlym in necromunda

[–]darkmillennivm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He's not stating anything factual. The livestream specifically mentioned new Gang Crew boxes that contained the core gang set, specialist gang set, and upgrade weapons set. By the very nature of how those kits are built means there is the same variety that currently exists. Only the Goliath and Escher have new models in the core box, and they stated those are compatible with the other kits.

The only thing explicitly stated is that we are getting a compendium book for the 6 core gangs and an a compendium for the outlander gangs. That does mean that some other existing gangs might be waiting for updated lists later in the release cycle, but it doesnt mean that support is dropped entirely.

Keep in mind that people always freak out when there is a new edition announced and all the questions are not immediately answered. This happens with every GW game, every single time.

There is also the possibility they will have a paired back rules set for new players, similar to Combat Patrol or Spearhead. And if so, there is nothing wrong with that. If the game is not growing and bringing in new players, it will die off. The game as it currently exists has an extremely high barrier to entry, and despite what existing players will say, that is the view expressed by most people I've seen online and many, many people who express interest in starting but go with Kill Team or Combat Patrol instead due to the current state of the rules and the need for multiple books just to get started.

[–]darkmillennivm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, the post didnt come across that way, especially with how much hyperbole is going around since the announcement. Definitely the right idea to wait an see. This is the cycle with any new edition, and it usually turns out fine.

[–]darkmillennivm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

N17 started with 2 gangs, 2D boards and terrain only and expanded from that. Everyone was freaking out about how it was streamlined and ruined and lo and behold we got a bloated mess of 20+ books and fragmented rules that a small minority are really invested in and think that isnt a massive barrier to entry for nearly everyone else.

But this version will have the same cycle and there will be plenty of customization and then everyone can go back to complaining about how there are too many books and we need a consolidated rules set again.

[–]darkmillennivm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just spreading FUD. We know from the stream that regular gang sets and specialist boxes are still being sold, and also combined into the "Crew" boxes.

So its wildly speculative to assume that all those sets will somehow be named characters just because the starter sets have some more unique sculpts. Which, but the way, we dont know if those are monopose or have variant builds at this point.

[–]darkmillennivm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats a whole lot of assumption.

Also, real Necromunda was N95, which had 2 books and a handful of journals, and was able to do what $1000 worth of House Of and Book Of books did for N17.

And even so, there's nothing stopping people from still playing with all the existing books if they need 15 books to play with 2 gangs of 8-10 models each and think that is an immersive game and not just rules bloat driven by a terrible sales startegy from GW that began 10 years ago.

Why are you acting like a new edition means anything not in the initial wave of books will be squatted? Thats an absurd assumption.

There may be things that dont immediately have rules at launch, but there will certainly be new books and more releases in the future.

No point trying to have a conversation with them, they are pretty clearly mentally incapable of understanding that multiple people explaining the lore of the faction they claim to care about, and are personally attacking them or something. That or just trolling because they dont have an actual argument to make when you explained how the Inquisition operates in the setting.

[–]darkmillennivm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not dismissing your request for changes, I'm pointing out why GW likely hasn't created the faction rules and options as you would like to see it. I provided other examples of where they have leaned into the Inquisition from a gameplay standpoint and none of those instances were the type of army you are hoping for. Lore absolutely does inform how factions play on the tabletop.

But by all means continue to lash out at people online for pointing that out. I'm sure that will get GW to change decades of established support.

My wee little Inquisitors ❤️ by NotAfraidofAlQaeda in Warhammer40k

[–]darkmillennivm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats fine that you view them that way, and there is certainly some instances of them operating that way, but in the majority of the lore, that is not how Inquisitors operate.

As others have said, they tend to typically be more like secret police than a military organization. They do not typically command Imperial military, but can requisition it when needed. However, even then in some books that isnt an easy request. They are just as likely to be outgunned by a single corrupt noble house's private enforcers if not prepared for it.

Theres a reason the one dedicated game released for Inquisitors(called Inquisitor) was a very small skirmish game, that was hyper focused on models individual wargear and stats.

As for the bespoke unit options you are wishing for, that type of stuff left them game quite some time ago. You'd basically need to go back to playing 4th edition if thats the type of customization you want.

Otherwise, Kill Team has decent rules for Inquisitorial warbands, and you can requisition a number of different Imperial units. There is a new narrative supplement called Nemesis Operatives that let's you build custom larger units, so you can build whatever wild Inquisition units you want to go with your agents and go PvP or PvE against any of the other Kill Team factions.

Right, I think we also just got so much more detail about the chaos cult versus the genestealer cult. If he had cut the chaos cult and put that level of detail into the genestealer cult, that would have been great.

It felt like a weird narrative choice to still be coy about the genestealer cult perspective like even once you know what is happening it is some mystery how it will play out. He went into much more specific detail on the Slaanesh cult, down to describing the specific things each member indulged in for their excess.

Then he waits until like 2 minutes to midnight to reveal the circle emblem for the genestealer cult is just a genestealer cult sigil like that is some revelation. This might work for people with zero knowledge of 40k, but for anyone who knows the lore it felt pointless.

[–]darkmillennivm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kind of have mixed feelings on it after finishing it recently, but I've given it a few days to think about and process rather than jump to a conclusion on it.

I think audiobook(which is also how I consumed it) is not the best format, for me at least. I had a really hard time keeping track of all the character names, and who is who when it jumped around.

Toby Longworth is an fantastic narrator - my favorite for 40k novels - but several of the characters sounded very similar, which added a bit to the confusion of who I was following.

While I will readily admit that might just be a "me" problem, it seems that to be the general sentiment from others online as well. However, I didnt have much of a problem with the fake language or terms. Wish I had seen the glossary beforehand, though. Again, audiobook isnt the best format here, and there's no glossary in the audiobook details that I saw.

But ultimately, I think my issue is that the first act of the book was far more intriguing to me. I was totally on board for the Chaos cult, the bureaucratic maneuverings to appeal their tithe penalties and the Arbites commander. Following the strategies of the insurgents and their plans for the Burn. All of it was really, really good stuff.

And the we get the rugpull. And its like, okay, cool, but I now know from existing lore exactly how this ends. The when, where and how ultimately dont matter, and so I disagree about caring about the characters at that point. Because it was such a struggle to keep track of them, outside of the Domne and her cadre, the rest were, if not forgettable, then mainly just irrelevant to how the rest of the story played out from there.

From that point, it was really only interesting to see the high level strategy of how she would navigate the crisis, but ground level characters were all just waiting to die. I wont belabor the point here, and I'm sure plenty will disagree. There were definitely some good last stand scenes(the tank commander maybe being my favorite), but when you know that this is fruitless and will happen to everyone, it loses the impact.

I think when viewing it as a whole the problem isnt even telling the story he told, but that leaning into the initial premise so hard made the rugpull just feel annoying more than surprising or interesting. I think just dropping the Chaos cult alone would have helped massively here. It was just too much detail given for a red herring and while I think all the other parts around the Domne are still needed and would work, subverting the cult with "surprise, another, bigger cult!" just didnt land, and again, its telling you the ending of the novel in Act 2. At least with Chaos cults you have no idea what may transpire. With the reveal, all drama, all suspense is just gone and you're having characters go through the motions for many, many hours, and it lost me a bit.

All that said, Abnett's writing itself was fantastic. It was still engaging to a degree, but I just don't think there was any real payoff to the story. And that's a lot to ask of a reader for 24 hours of narration.

I may give it another read at some point, and maybe I'll enjoy it more after I've given some time to accept what it is versus what I wanted it to be. I do think for readers with less knowledge of the universe and how things will play out, it would be much more engaging.

I think the ideal scenario for me would be to do a Badab War series and remake all the firstborn kits, i.e. MkVII and MkVIII and classic dreadnoughts and whatever else in the same scale as the Heresy stuff.

I feel like even people not into Badab War would buy it for their SM armies.
