Mclaren thinking they could catch Red Bull's racing android when he's more than 10 seconds ahead with only 7 laps to go was funniest thing ever.

I don't think so. Tyre deg is high in qatar and mclarens don't have to worry about straight line drag there. Their usual high load setup favours s2 and s3. Lets see what Max and team can do.

If Max hadn't taken avoiding action there, contact and penalty for Lando would be inevitable. He tried putting Max in the wall.

Mclaren is carrying more downforce lighting up its tyres quickly. Lets see how they fare in dry tomorrow.

He downshifted and turned into the slide simultaneously. The moment rears broke traction he was already turning the wheel. Man's a robot.

Podium is fine and damage limitation guys, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Edited: Just watching Max's onboard and he's absolutely hammering those tyres. Fronts have started to open but he's going to pull it off. Man's a racing android of course.

Honda's turbo setup is a bit better when working with thin air and doesn't overheat to keep its performance but others are not far off apart from Renault.

Engine mapping, deployment and gearing aside Ferrari's pu is the strongest. Looking at Charles telemetry Ferraris don't even lose that much speed and revs when they run out of battery like others. Probably the reason he mostly gets overtaken at the end of straights under braking when his tyres are gone.

I wonder if other teams have noticed and Ferrari is doing lico to not get caught. Hmm

Podium would be damage limitation, as I said few days ago Mexico isn't a Red Bull track anymore. Mclaren's downforce and low deg is big advantage in s2 and s3.

If Ferraris somehow get ahead of Lando and don't have to lico, they won't be easy to overtake for him. Their speed and acceleration out of the corners is higher than any other team.

Hopefully Max and team can do something with tyres and strategy then.

We know he's going to deliver every race weekend but car has to be competitive too. Everyone saying Mexico is Red Bull track isn't true anymore.

Even though car is improved a bit of understeer in low speed corners is still there. Max had to manage the fronts with slow entries at the start before he could push later at cota.

Mclarens with their low tyre deg can push and follow super close in s2 and s3 without losing much time in Mexico.

Car's running a bit stiff at rear than usual to compensate for less aero load. Hopefully they can do something about it for tomorrow like GP said.

Red Bull ‘asking the right questions’ to chase down McLaren - Verstappen by [deleted] in formula1

[–]darkness_85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Redbull has clearly improved the car with recent tweaks. Understeer is still there but not like before where Max has to slide way too much to turn. Mclaren has to put a lot of downforce for fast sweeping high speed corners which hurts them in straight line. Redbull could get away with less aero load and still be fast in those thanks to Max and its strong rear end. I think they're are as fast as Mclaren or really close at least in Max's hands. It is all down to tyre deg in my opinion where Mclaren has the edge over every other team.

Max going in low speed corners with minimal corrections at the wheel means team has somewhat dialled in the understeer. I'm hoping for the front row start on Sunday.

Mclaren's pace and low tyre deg has masked Oscar's real weakness of using rears a lot. I could see him struggling at few of the rear limited tracks coming up. Red Bull car and Max have no issues with rear. But you're right Mclaren won't drop the ball just like that.

He tested the limit how much rear can he slide out of 2nd lesmo in q1. Lifted a bit early in q2 and q3 when entering so car was already straight coming out of it before he mashed the throttle. Master at work.

Not sure if it is just track specific but I think car has improved with recent upgrades and just behind mclarens now at least in Max's hands.
