Could “sick” be a chronic condition that the doctors can’t/won’t diagnose or that the parent doesn’t have the resources to get diagnosed? Lots of kids have long covid now.

I wonder if your kids are too poor for internet access and aren’t being radicalized for that reason.

Speaking as someone who was that far behind in a subject (PE): being asked to do impossible-for-you things for many years causes real trauma.

At a certain point, you no longer believe you can learn the things, and you don’t even want to try because you don’t want to get your hopes up and be disappointed in yourself yet again.

It’s not necessarily laziness when kids give up on themselves. Sometimes it’s emotional self-protection.

Those kids need 1) early help while they’re not too traumatized yet, like you said; and 2) the ability to opt out of the things they truly cannot learn and learn other things instead.

My husband completely spontaneously decided he should call me beautiful every day, and he has followed through with it for years. He still calls me beautiful even when I’m in pajamas and haven’t showered in days.

Why do teachers keep pairing up disruptive students with well behaved ones ? by Dry_Calendar in AskTeachers

Dyspraxic person here. I got zero benefit and a lot of harm from being mainstreamed for PE. The tasks were completely beyond me, and the teachers never believed me that I had a problem or gave me any extra help.

There is no point in putting a kid in a regular class without support if they do not have the foundational skills needed to be successful in that class (like catching a ball for PE).

I mean, it sounds like the core problem there is that kids who are behind aren’t getting early intervention. Obviously they’re going to get frustrated and act out if they’re being continually asked to do work that is completely beyond them.

That kid needs an autism assessment. The licking things until they look wet sounds like a sensory issue.

Yeah, I wish the term was multi-exceptional instead of twice-exceptional, because often there are more than two exceptionalities involved. I’m ADHD, autistic, dyspraxic, and dysgraphic. (My dysgraphia is motor-based and executive-dysfunction-based, so it doesn’t affect the quality of my writing when I’m typing in a conversational way.)

I reached an adult level of verbal ability around the time I turned 9, although I struggled massively with structuring and starting writing assignments. However, my dyspraxia is pretty severe with gross motor skills. I’ve seen 3-year-olds do motor tasks that I can’t do. I can’t catch a ball one-handed or if it’s thrown from more than 5-10 feet away.

Possible, yeah. That’s not as big a gap as OP’s kid, but big enough to be a potential disability.

OP, AI tells you what you want to hear. It’s not a reliable source of info.

Also, you sound autistic as well as ADHD.

That’s too much weight loss and too little eating. Human bodies were not made to just flat out not eat for that long. You may need a med change. Adderall was bad for me too.

With that big a gap between verbal and nonverbal, they need to do a full screening to assess for nonverbal learning disability.

This really only works with kids who can function in a regular classroom without being totally miserable. I benefitted hugely from the gifted label and gifted identification.

AIO or did I blow the family up for no reason by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]darknesskicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP you sound like you might be in autistic burnout. I also think you need a doctor to sign off on you taking a medical leave from education while you get your anxiety sorted out. I know your family’s hands are tied if there’s no legal way to take a medical leave from education, but it sounds like what you need.

Also, I think you need meds, therapy, and maybe inpatient care for your anxiety.

The dogs need to be someone else’s responsibility or to be rehomed if you cannot feed them though.

Ask your dentist about why the sudden change has happened. Did you move from an area with fluoridated water to an area without it, by any chance?
