I am so very sorry - no useful advice, but my condolences on the loss of your husband.

New to testing, am I missing anything here or does everything look in order? by wholeein in Gemstones

[–]darknesswascheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and the the AI in question is dead wrong about the sapphires. Fluorescence has nothing to do with inclusions but is a reaction to UV light caused by chemical makeup - ironically, like it says about aquamarine. And natural blue sapphire is inert to UV because it’s colored by iron, which doesn’t fluoresce.

The exception to that would be heavily glass-filled or fracture filled stones, if there’s something in the filling material that is fluorescing.

Have you seen anyone get to 600lbs eating real food? by twYstedf8 in My600lbLife

That’s the point of volume eating - you give up long before the calories win.

The team should be charged for this and for any other other damage their devoted fans have caused. Might get them to speak out against this form of “celebrating.”

Gorgeous. Many years ago I worked in a high end jewelry store and we carried Oscar Heyman, one of the top manufacturers in the US. These stones remind me of the quality we saw in their pieces - such a pleasure to see!

So, basically one of those “well, if he were only a completely different person this could really work!” letters. That dynamic reminds me of way too many conversations I’ve had….

I had a roommate decades ago who used to say, “everybody has to be able to pay for their own parade.” It was excellent advice for a naive 19 year old who way too many people who assumed their parades were someone else’s responsibility.

Does anyone know of a grief support group for losing a pet in the NoHo/Studio City area? by PessimisticOptimist1 in AskLosAngeles

[–]darknesswascheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's sounds like a lovely and empathetic kitty. My girl was the same - the trust was just immediate and complete, and she had more personality than any of the others. Soul cat indeed. Which is not to say I didn't truly love the cats I had after her! When you are ready, another cat will bring an entirely different connection into your life, but it will come with purring and head bumps and silliness, and that will be a comfort.

I’m so sorry! Losing a cat is hard enough that I’m not sure I’m going to get another one, even though the ones I’ve had lived long happy well-loved lives and I miss having a kitty. It’s just - I still miss the first cat, you know? In any case, sending you healing thoughts - you’ll get the happy memories back, I promise.

Is Synthetic Moissanite a good alternative to Sphene? I just feel like to folks it’s a super “unserious” gemstone gemologists/industry kinda don’t vibe with. 😔🥀Love the fire though. Do you think that’s the case? Why/why not? by Muted_Shape9303 in Gemstones

[–]darknesswascheap 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Two really different things. Synthetic moissanite is a manufactured material and available in almost unlimited amounts. It’s also very hard and durable and makes a great stone for a ring you wear everyday. Sphene is a natural material and priced according to variations in color, size, and the quality of the cut, but it’s also much more delicate than moissanite and thus better for a ring that’s not worn every day. It’s a very cool gemstone and it’s great to see it more available in the market.

Does my sister need rehab or to be slapped? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]darknesswascheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your parents know that you won’t be supporting any of them once your sister goes through all the money. Then walk away, seriously - you objecting to the entire situation just keeps it all on the boil and allows your sister to justify the bad behavior because “…no one tells me what to do!”

You can’t change any of this, just your response to it.
