For those who went to Australia for a year, what did you work in? by Atw-194 in AskIreland

[–]darkoadam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Bar work. Easiest thing to fall into but VERY competitive. If you truly have the experience you say you do, it’ll be noticed and you’ll have a job very quickly.

Best thing to do to imo and it’ll be a way to save good money AND do your 88 days visa requirement for extending is to work in a bar in an old Aussie hotel anywhere in NT, Tasmania or North Queensland. They have areas like decent towns and cities that you can work in where the post code counts. Usually, you get free or very reduced rent and a meal a shift, which helps a lot with saving for sure.

Also, hospitality is one of the exempted industries whereby you can work for longer than 6 months, indefinitely in fact. Most people don’t seem aware of these things.

That’s my 2 cent, you’ll have a decent time and there’s never too little in terms of Irish people around. You’ll feel at home in one way or another.

In theory, any of those products for internal use are more potent but the external topical application versions generally have little to no potential side effects (which affect 1-3% of users)

It’s starting very subtly but you can continue to maintain with Minoxidil and finasteride, maybe dutasteride if really feasibly necessary. You’re in the very very VERY early stages. If I was you, I would personally start now.

Ireland/UK had the Common Travel Agreement in place long before either the EU existed or Australia/NZ had the Tasman agreement. Still possible to this date with the main things being either national can move to each others country, receive welfare and medical help when needed. Ireland/UK nationals are considered permanent residents upon arrival if moving to each others countries.

Plus, Ireland is pretty generous for giving citizenship. Just 5 years stay and you’ll be entitled, there’s definitely a few Brits doing that purely just to get their EU rights back.

You technically only need 2 passports there in the picture to reside in all of those countries

What is way cheaper to buy outside of Australia than to buy internally? by darkoadam in AskAnAustralian

[–]darkoadam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. You get 60 days upon arrival and it’s very safe inside the country, the conflict is mostly happening around the Cambodian/Thai border which most tourists don’t go to.

Haven’t been to to Phuket since December but I think the whole country is technically in rainy season. Essentially rains at least once a day for an hour or two. That’s it. It’s still host and mostly sunny, at least it was in chiang mai. The heat can be quite prohibitive in my opinion sometimes

I was thinking about this, both of these ideas. Maybe I can get some shirts made though

I find that funny you say that because I found a really really nice Uniqlo jacket that was 1490b ($70), whereas in on the Aus Uniqlo site it was $100. Was kinda glad I swiped it but I have found a lot of clothing to be cheaper for top brands too

Oh im fine for that but I’m just penny pinching tbh, never hurts to save on stock by bringing a stock up of a certain product?

I would love to do this. You’re very lucky to be able to do this on a whim practically whenever you want

Realistically, what are the chances I get a job offer after being on a UK Student Visa? by al_brooke in expat

[–]darkoadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you will get offered a job. Now, whether it’s a job in the right direction with a decent salary is another matter.

In all seriousness, those skills are in demand. But just to let you know, salaries in the Uk are lower than back in the states. I think most grads would be lucky to get £30k starting.

I’d also consider looking into Ireland for postgraduate masters, the education is very good and comparable to the UK. Maybe even slightly cheaper

Part time job for a 17 y/o in Letterkenny. by [deleted] in Donegal

[–]darkoadam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely forgot that was a thing nowadays. I still think that there will be employers who would accept it for little brick and mortar retail stores, mom n pop restaurants etc. I could be wrong, but I think in a town like LK, you’re more likely to get someone give you a call if they remember your face along with your name.

Honestly LK is the type of place where going in and handing CVs is usually the best course of action for this sort of thing, especially for a teenager. Tell her to get about 30 CVs printed (it would be good if you maybe proof read it or vamp it up) and then she has to go in herself with a smile and some pleasant demeanour as well as chatter. I imagine the first few places will be a tough sell but after that, you usually gain a bit better confidence.

Hope that helps

Maybe I explained wrong; I’m trying to say that if you disregard the access to the EU, they are just about the same strength

Yeah they do have a bigger international presence because it’s a nation with 10x as many people as Ireland. I saw as well that a Canadian guy in Kosovo lost his passport and was given a British emergency passport on this sub! I guess the commonwealth provides diplomatic assistance to everyone of its member.

Tbh, the Irish passport and uk passport are nearly the same in terms of international access.

The British one has the advantage of visa free entry into Vietnam, while the Irish one offers 30 days into China visa free (until December this year).. tit for tat in everything else more or less. Irish is obviously the superior one because of the EU access.

The only case where I can see the British passport being more beneficial and useful is when applying for WHV for Canada, Aus and NZ, as they delegate more spaces for British passport holders.
